Unichip users- is it good for the price
Since everyone is dropping their unichips these days there are a lot available for a good price. I was wondering from anyone who uses or has used a unichip in the past if they would recomend it for a safe form of manegement. Right now I can't afford the utec and wouldn't have the exprience to tune so I figure I could pick up a used chip and get it dyno tuned for a reasonable price.
Is there anyone still using it and happy with it? Did you have it tuned or off the shelf map? What are some of the problems associated with them? Right now I'm basically at a "stage 2" level plus a few bolt on's and a 50 shot. Thanks

Go Utech or ReFlash
I had a Used Unichip for a whole week and a half before I sold and up graded to the Utech. I had bad hesitation with the unichip and from my research not every one experienced this. Now that I have the Utech life is much better. I am just running stage one right now and will move to stage two in the next few months and then have it dyno tuned. Stage one is great the car runs so smooth that it is scary. It pulls much harder in every gear and the power is good all the way to 6800 rpm.
I would hold out if I were you. Good Luck |

WRX4FUN, thanks for the advice. Are you using the base map with success or have you modified it? I guess on a stage 1 car you wouldn't have to mess with it too much.
I know their are a lot people out there with exprience...please give your opinion. Anyone else with a unichip using nitrous? |

I dont have nitrous but I do have TXS upipe and TBE. I bought my Unichip used and remapped for stage 2. The previous owner didnt have hesitation or cold start problems so I dont have those either. I paid $250 for used Unichip and very happy with the performance. Everything is just so smooth compared to just having the TXS HPMBC for more boost. If you can find a Unichip for cheap, I say go for it. You should be very close to UTEC territory even with only a Unichip.

I also have used vishnu stage1 unichip for couple of weeks. I can feel just little more power but definately not like utec. When I drove my friend's utec equipped WRX, I immediately noticed difference like day and night! The only different setup between my car and his car is ecu and intercooler. The unichip and utec is not even close in my opinion.

Thanks for the advice. I know the utec or a relash would be a better choice, but it's not in my budget right now. I was just curious if people were happy with their chips. You can't beat the price that they are going for right now.
I know I should wait and save up for the utec or something comporable but I think a unichip will fit my needs at the moment. A little off topic but is anoyone using a cai with a TXS stage 2 map? |

I'm running stage two with my SBC-iD and really like it. It's great for my use. I don't require a beast by any means, but it's plenty fast for the occasional spirted driving and track days. PM "djerickd" on here as he's running stage two with the Injen CAI. I believe the Injen is the only CAI that can be mapped into the unichips - atleast the one from TurboXS.

If you are on a tight budget and with your limited tuning experience, then I would suggest the injen cai. It will lean out your a/f ratio and most likely give you about 10hp. Let's face it you normally get what you pay for that is why the utec is so costly.

Question?
What I'm understanding is that Vishnu doesn't have map for CAI. Does CAI still give 10hp with unichip? or it's just waste of money and mess with A/F ratio? Thanks. |

turborex- I do have a injen and txs said it will not work with a stage 2 chip.
wrx2- Vishnu does not have a map for a cai and they do not like to tune cars with them. They recomend taking them off. They can tune a car w/ a cai but it will take longer and only make about 3hp on the dyno. Most people around here say to stick with the stock intake. I bought mine a long time ago when I didn't know it wouldn't help much. But the butt-dyno did feel a little more power when I installed it, I also like the look and sound. update- installed my stg 2 unichip and went from stock boost to 16.5 so the power is definetly there. I do have occasional hesitation around 3-4K rpms if I am at half throttle. At WOT it just pulls. Now, I'm going to send it back to TXS for a stg 4 map.
Does anyone know if it is safe to run a vf30 on stock ecu and stock boost controller until I get my unichip back? I already have the pump installed just need to do the turbo and injectors. |
