How much Power is an ej22t good for stock?????
I have almost picked up two seperate wrecked WRX's, both 2001's in hopes to do a drivetrain swap into my 94 impreza awd. BUT i just picked up this 92 turbo (ej22t) legacy and am going to pull the engine and give it an oem rebuild. When its all said and done with supporting mods to back. What kinda power is a stock rebuilt EJ22t good for? I dont want to take it to overboard because i will be running a stock trans with a tight clutch.

Well it can hold boost, but with wrx heads it has a very low CR and thoes rods are not all that. Same as any stock subaru block around 400whp for a good lenth of time.
For a stock like set up it should do fine, but you will have to up the boost to make good power and you will have a lag problem. This thread should answer all your questions. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...highlight=ej22 |

I have seen bent rods on an EJ22t at a little over 300hp. Just ask SBW he bought the broken engine. The closed deck block isnt gonna keep stock rods from breaking, cast pistons from breaking ring lands, or phase I thrust bearing from disintegrating. It may however keep your cylinder walls from ovaling at 500whp+.
Dont waste your time or money doing a stock rebuild to this engine. It will only cost slightly more for Eagle rods and JE pistons. Some people have run very high boost in these engines, mostly due to the very low CR, but they are just not reliable at these hp levels. 300whp in a daily driven car is a awesome car and about the max I would want to run a stock EJ22t. |

I dissagree on the phase I thing... there are more then a few 400+whp subarus running phase 1 blocks with no problems. I sure wouldnt spend money on JE pistons either.
CP pistons and pauter rods IMO best way to go. There are a few others out there, but not JE. www.crawfordperformance.com has experience with and stocks them. |

So the engine should hold ~270 horse no problem? thats plenty in a 94 impreza awd. I have a local DSM to contend with (91 eclipse gsx) not stock, says hes got 300 horse, i think more like 250-270...
