Is Donating Blood Good for You?
I started donating blood back when I got laid off in 2002 and have been doing it roughly every two months since then. I know donating blood is good for the people who need blood, but is it also good for the person donating it?

it's not good or bad. it's a small enough amount for you to be able to replenish it (with healthy diet and rest)

Not really as you are exposing yourself to infection threats and obviously requiring your body to make more blood, which is an overall stress on your system.

My dad stopped doing it recently after doing it for over 20 years. His doctor warned him that he was building up scar tissue from them drawing blood so much and they were worried about being able to use his veins in case of emergency.

Exercise is a stress on your system, too. But you don't see people holding off on that for their health, unless they are seriously ill to begin with. Edit: I really miss being able to give blood: It helped me stagger my mountainbike training... |

If you want to do it to help yourself, you can give your own blood and store if for future use. |

I like to go in for the occasional blood-letting! It balances out the humours!

Heh, well the skin layer has still been pierced so there a threat, albeit quite small. Really the benefit is moral/emotional and to your community as a whole. |

Difference is you get stronger from exercise, you dont get stronger from blood dontation as it deffinitely doesn't increase your hematocrit or blood making ability or recovery, etc |

There's a good chance it is good for you. Article below says it may reduce the risk of heart disease.

Pretty bold statement. So if your body is sensitive enough to adapt to higher altitude, you don't think being a pint low might also cause your body to adapt/respond at all? |
