Most patients I can hear pretty clearly, however, for some of the older patients and the big fatties, I often find it difficult to hear a heartbeat or adventitious breath sounds.

I've been on Med/surge/Tele for 2 years now, and I just got an internship with my hospital to be an OR circulatory RN. Horray!!!! Anyone go that route before? Very tired of the grind of the floor with 6 to 1.

I forgot about this thread
I've been an RN (BSN) for almost 8 years now, all in cardiology. 2.5 years in cardiac med/surg ward, 6 months cardiac ICU and 5 years cardiac cath lab where I've been the clinical nurse leader for the last 2.5 years. Been a great deal of fun but I'll be moving to industry to become a clinical specialist in interventional cardiology/structural cardiology for a large international company this summer |

( I am not an RN working as a clinical specialist, I am a former code monkey working as a software testing analyst, but I have a great deal of respect for the RNs that work here. ) |

Anyone wanna hook me up with a internship/externship in some type of ICU or trama? I'm currently a junior nursing major and need some experience beside clinicals at my school for this summer! I'm located in the DC/Md/va area

I finally found a job too. I got accepted into a 16 week residency program at a hospital. I've only just finished the first week but it's extremely helpful and a nice transition from being fresh out of school to being an RN and having all the responsibilities that go with it. I'll spend the next two weeks rotating with RN's in different specialties (IV therapy, cardiac cath, etc) and then I'll begin training in the ED. |

Bump this thread. I remember reading/posting in this thread when I was a sophomore in my nursing program. Now I'm a week away from graduating with my BSN! I already have accepted my first full-time job almost a month ago in the Cardio-thoracic/Cardiac ICU at a Level 1/Magnet status hospital.
Hope everyone is doing well! |

Congrats to all you guys getting/got your RN. Im typing this as I'm doing a 1:1 sitter assignment lol.
Been slumming it for 8 years now as an LVN and am desperately trying to move up. The nursing game is crazy in California, but it's really up to me to get back to school. I didn't read the whole thread but did the OP ever finish? I have encountered a lot of nursing students who had zero previous medical experience and got into nursing programs, but quit 2 weeks after they started going to clinical. And Happy Nurses Week to all you. Nursing is an underappreciated segment in the hospital, and we carry a lot of the responsibility but also harbor a lot of the blame when things go wrong. - Paul |

If you have all the pre reqs and qualifications you shouldn't have a problem getting into one at all. Get good grades and start applying yourself which I suspect you are not doing.
