Picking Up New Rex Today. Have a Couple Questions
Well, I'll be picking up my new sedona red 5 speed wagon later today. Hopefully there aren't any glitches at the dealer. Just had a couple q's though?:
1) I've read that you need to let the car idle for a minute or so before turning the key off so that that turbo has a chance to cool. Is this true or only when you really "hammer" on the car? 2) No letting the rpm's over 4k till at 1000 miles, correct? 3) Should I get the oil changed at 1000 miles or wait till 3000? I've read about both cases being better than the other. 4) I paid 23K plus doc and title fees, which totaled 600 over dealer invoice. I feel like I wheeled and dealed on the price and got a good one. What do you think? 5) What else do I need to know about the 1st couple days of driving the car? I know there will be a fat smile on my face. No charge for that Thanks. John

got my new rex, and have a couple answers
Its a good idea to just be nice to the car a few mins before u get to where ur going. This way u let the turbo cool down. Then maybe just sit in it for like 30secs or so. Otherwise, if u drive very hard, its a good idea to let it idle for a little while (to avoid the oil burning) 2. Yepps, not over 4k rpms til 1000 miles. VErY hard to do 3. I think this is an argument that has been going on for while now. I would say do it at 3k (but what the hell do I know) 4. Thats a good price 5. Umm..not much else. Just be nice to the car. Also, now that you are a new subie owner, if you see a wrx or 2.5 rs on the street you MUST wave/beep/give a thumbs up/ or something. Otherwise, you new wrx will be taken from you, and your parents will have to call to get it back have fun with ur car Keith |

True only after hard driving. 2) No letting the rpm's over 4k till at 1000 miles, correct? Correct. 3) Should I get the oil changed at 1000 miles or wait till 3000? I've read about both cases being better than the other. This is debatable but one thing for sure, DO change the oil after its FIRST 3000 miles. 4) I paid 23K plus doc and title fees, which totaled 600 over dealer invoice. I feel like I wheeled and dealed on the price and got a good one. What do you think? You got a great deal. Some dealers are charging close to MSRP in some places where demand is higher. 5) What else do I need to know about the 1st couple days of driving the car? That I hate you and want your WRX engine. |

1) I think you got a good price on your car.
2) I would let it sit for 1/2 - 1 minute before you turn the engine off, especially if you drive your car hard. Good practice on a turbo'ed car. 3) It's a good idea to change oil at first 1000 miles. I didn't because I reached 100- miles within 1.5 weeks and 3000 miles within 1 month after getting my RS, so I changed my oil at 3000 miles. But, always change your oil every 3000 miles. 4) Break-in the car! Go easy for 1000 miles. Even after 1000 miles, the car is still in the process of break-in. So, gradually increase the hard driving. |

Keith is right - I got my WRX last Friday - and keeping at or below 4K is much more difficult than you think. The car really wants to rev. I have only missed it once so far - it went to about 4500 rpm. Have fun.
