Peninsula Subaru reaches new lows
[rant]
So, I'm getting really horrible gas mileage on my 02 WRX. I mean like 15 mpg around town and barely breaking 20 mpg on extended highway trips. I talk to a couple people (Shiv included since I don't want to put my Stage 0 on a messed up engine) and they all agree I need to get my car in for a diagnostic check. I call Peninsula Subaru service department and get 'Vance'. He tells me it's because of ethanol. I say 'but everybody else who drives WRXs on the SAME gas as me gets around 20 mpg'. After some back and forth about how a) they didn't replace the crush washer when they changed my oil (yeah, it leaks) and b) I had to get the service manager to watch over the techs shoulder before he would add tranny fluid (came back 2x before saying 'it was fine'... ended up adding half a quart)... Vance reluctantly agrees to have me drop off my car for a day. Question. If he has already decided it's 'ethanol', what are the chances I will go to pick up my car and hear some crap like 'We couldn't find anything wrong'. I tell ya... something is SEVERELY wrong when a computer nerd has to chase after a mechanic to make sure the mechanic is doing his friggin job! [/rant] Hey Peninsula Subaru...:monkey: !!

Any CE lights or drivability symptoms?
Not much for them to go on otherwise --- I can look in the manuals and see if they list any common problems for poor MPG, but I'm sure they're just going to return it No Fault Found. Glenn |

If you want to test them to see if they're going to do anything with it, unplug an 02 sensor before you go.

I've been running Chevron 92 or Texaco 92...
I called the service manager (Kevin) today and bitched a bit... told him that I didn't want to have ANOTHER poor service experience in his garage... he assured me that he will oversee the process personally. we'll see what happens |

Best of luck with your visit tomorrow... I have had good experiences with Kevin, FWIW.

well, they DID replace the original crush washer... unfortunately, they never took the original out... note: two crush washer = oil leak.
as suspected, they noted no trouble found on the gas mileage. |
