Default STi Shifter Trim

I've had a few people ask me about this trim piece since the install in my car. I can get us this piece but I need to know how many people would be interested in it. I paid $110 shipped. If I can get a definitive number of people who would buy into this GroupBuy then I would get them. Of course, the more people we get the lower the price. I can guarantee that you will be paying less then what I go mine for. I have to warn you now, this mod is a pain in the ass! Don't worry, I will help with the installation. Who would be interested in this? Winslow

Thumbs up

That ring is the shiznit, you have to see it in the car to fully realize how good it looks. I have some other pics, but I have not downloaded them off the camera yet. If someone wants other pictures let me know.

And is that....no, couldn't be......it would take too long to do it, but I think it is.....its BLUE thread in the shift boot. Can you tell that Winslow paid attention in Home Economics class!!

Later....Kris

You guys are funny. That isn't my shift boot or ring. Kris will have to post pics of my bootiful stitching. I don't recommend that mod.

Kapafool: I thought you were in, too?

$70 is a good price. The member AK_WRX is referring to is Kevin Lam. He and almost every STi dealer cannot get the trim because they are out of stock. Currently, I can get them. I'm not sure how long they will be available or how long it is going to take before we can find them again. Let me know if you are still interested. Winslow

It really depends on how many people commit. Around $95 is a good estimate. Winslow

I could probably commit for $95, but it would be even better if I could hook up on this middle February. Although if it has to be now I will find a way.

UPDATE... Today, I talked to Kevin about getting this item. He is still working on getting them but is unsure if it is going to be available. If he can get them, then the price will be lower than $95. Winslow

I'll continue to post updates. We should know something soon. Just keep checking this thread. I'm still unsure if it will happen. I haven't had a big response. Currently, we have a soft commitment of four people.

on the trim he said that he was waiting....

i asked about the sti hood scoop and front lip spoiler...and he gave me these prices:

sti front lip 480+shipping
sti hood scoop 270+shipping

for the hood scoop i think he was thinking about the front grill, cuz 270 is alot for a scoop...that's my theory. and that's all the info i got from him...what did u ask him?

The demand for this item is really high. I noticed that he was offering the trim for $95. I'm working on a solution. Winslow

*UPDATE* - If we order the trim now then the price will be $100. If we wait then we might be able to get it cheaper.

ezatnova:

It is difficult. These directions were just a guide. I had to do a few things different like add spacers to the bolts. You practically ruin your shifter boot installing this piece but it is worth it. The trim looks damn good! Here are the instructions I used:

install instructions
1. Follow the directions for removing the center console as in the short shift install.
2. Follow the directions earlier in this thread about removing the shift boot/trim ring - HOWEVER, you do NOT need to take the boot off of the ring, just pull the clips to remove the boot/ring combo from the console piece. Also, as I found out later, you do not need to be too concerned about being careful on the pins that the clips attach to - you will not need these pins to hold the boot in place later.
3. The STI trim does not fit in the stock hole in the console. You will have to trim this (I used a razor knife and a motor tool with a grinding bit to smooth). Set the trim on the console where you want it and mark around the trim locations - you'll only have to trim in the 6 places where the screws will go.
4. Trim the console (carefully!) and test fit as you go.
5. Now, hold the shift boot/ring under the console and align it on the pins - if you want you can put a couple of the clips back on to help hold it steady for the next step.
6. Using your drill and 1/8" bit, drill holes to align with the 6 screw locations in the STI trim - these will go into the shift boot ring below. To get the machine screws Stephen included to thread, I had to also drill upward from the backside of the boot (you're drilling through the shift boot vinyl as well....)
7. Screw the pieces together using a hex key - the screws hold the STI trim down and clamp it to the shift boot ring - thus no clips required! BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERTIGHTEN THE SCREWS - they pull out of the boot ring and you will have trouble getting them to seat again.
8. Put everything back in the car.

*UPDATE* I can get us the trim for $85 shipped. The guy Ak_WRX had referred to that was selling the STi trim for $70 is now selling them for $95. I'm here to help you install them. I might just modify them for you if I can get someone to loan me their shifter boot. $85 shipped is our member price and is the best deal going. Can you believe I'm actually going to help you install this time intensive PITA? Maybe we can do a one for one swap. You give me your shifter boot and I give you a finished shifter boot with STi trim installed. Or I can just give you guidance. Winslow
