Default Ouback owner reporting good mileage even after 3 years!

I drove my 2000 Leg OB wagon from LA to SF last weekend. On the way up, even with A/C on about half the way. I went a full 400 miles without having to re-fuel!

On the way back, I didn't use A/C at all and still had the same mileage. ?? Hmmm. When I filled eached time, it was near to 14.9 gallons, and our tanks hold 15.9.

That's 26.8 MPG on a car that has 82,000 miles on it in three years! (Well, almost four now).

I'm happy with that!

That's really good! I can't get my '99 to get much better than 22-23mpg.

Thumbs up

Last March I measured my 98 5mt on two legs of a trip from Orlando FL to Columbus OH. Three people plus gear, air conditioning, mountains, driving around 80 quite a bit, I got 25.5 and 26.5.

OTOH my 89 Escort 5mt can still pull a good 35 or so...

Hey! That's mpg, not mph!

Last month I took a trip from Columbus, Ohio to NYC and back in my 2002 OBW Ltd with AT. ˘ċith A/C on, averaging 70-80 and lots of mountains in PA and WV, gas milage was about 27.5 mpg. I was quite pleased with it.

One thing I liked about taking the OB through the mountains was the fact that I didn't need to downshift.

Notice how many more Subarus, new and old, you see when you're in the mountains? I-68 was full of them in Maryland.

If I lived there, and dealt with those long grades all the time, I'd seriously consider building some kind of dive-brake mod. As it was, last time I came north on I-77 through WV, I was pulling passing maneuvers at 80+ mph, in neutral.
