Think twice, my car is lowered so the rear was already lowered and I got an toe in alignment so the tire rubs faster, the limit is 200 lbs and I'm not WAY beyond the rating. The tires were just out of life so thats why I used the bad set.

I stopped every 200/250 miles to check and make sure everything was fine and I am here in New York all fine and good.

4 wheel/tires are on average 50lbs each = 200lbs.
However much that frame weighs, Id guess 25lbs.

Thats 225lbs.

Here's the kicker..the 200lb rating is for 4" beyond the hitch (Typical ball mount)

Looks like your center of gravity is AT LEAST 12-16" beyond the hitch.

Ever heard of this thing called Leverage?

I just got done towing a Harbor Freight 4x8 from NYC to WV, and back. I have a 2007 WRX with a TD05-18G EWG, stock suspension, 114k miles, and a curtis hitch. With the side panels and wood it probably weighed 300ish pounds and then I packed it with tools probably weighing 700 or so. I had no trouble the whole trip; going up hills, dead stop up a steep driveway, braking, I probably averaged 75mph the whole way.
I have a bar camera above my license plate that worked great for hooking up the trailer

Anybody run a hitch mounted platform on the wide body WRX frame with the Curt hitch? Looking mostly for extra cargo volume, not much weight. Already running a hitch mounted rack on an 03 wagon but looking to upgrade and need to buy back some space for weekend trips.

Glad to hear there are others out there towing with Subarus. I towed all kinds with my old corolla. After I bought the WRX everyone's been warning me the towing kill the AWD. It sounds like it's all talk though. I'll be buying a hitch in the next cupple of weeks.

Yeah, pretty cool. I was always able to put two boards in the back seat of my MY02 sedan, one behind each front seat. Or through the pass through.

Thanks I just finished building it out of a cheapy ebay bike rack and some used roof rack borad and ski holders. I already had the hitch for my catamaran and bike rack so i wanted to get a board rack but they are pricey to buy. I also wanted to stay away from the roof racks because of expense mileage and noise. So you guys are seeing my solution for a cheap hitch board carrier.

Precisely why I hate putting it inside and if I leave the pass through open the drone is horendous.

Whatever works for you. A good shake in the lot and there's just a little snow/water on the board. For me that's a fair trade off to avoid getting road crap all over the board and the gas mileage hit.

I'm taking the Mini snowboarding this year, fitting boards inside that is not easy.

Yeah it's 2000lbs if the trailer has brakes on it. If not, it's 1000

For your 2011? Check the manual, SOA now bans towing on WRX's, not sure if that's the case with base Imprezas. Either way anything over 1k# needs trailer brakes.

they said 200/2000 for any trailer...they just recommend going 60 mph max.

Again, read your manual. The dealer is WRONG. Here's the part you care about, from your manual:

would you rather do 1300 dollars of damage to your car????

I'd rather put the car on a flat bed trailer and tow it all those miles VS having to possibly replace all kind of parts or even a transmission or burn a turbo up on such a long haul.

In the long run it's safer to just trailer the car and rend a truck capable of hauling your stuff and the car.

I personally wouldn't exceed 1000 with our cars and that's pushing it a bit. IMO,

I do however need to find a new hitch for my car and I also need to get a trailer to put my bike on. I wanted to get a dual bike trailer but seeing as my bike is 600 pounds and my friends is nearly 700 I told him he will need to get the dual trailer as his mustang can tow both bikes at once and I'll just find a cheap used single for my bike. lol.

Okay, I have looked through this thread a few times and I'm stumped as to what to get. There are a lot of brands out there and I just don't know what hitch to get for my 2010 WRX (non-STi).

What do you guys seem to like the most for brands? and which ones are the most compatible with aftermarket exhausts?

Is anyone able to help me out on this quest?

Like my post above says this will be for towing my bike. I have a vulcan 900 right now but may be upgrading in a few months if things work out.

Anyone have any take on towing from NY to South FL. Roughly 1500 miles, 1 way.

I'll be using an '04 WRX Trans.
Max weight on the trailor should be 800. (that's including the trailor)

Have any of you ever been rear-ended with your rack on the back of your car? I have, and I'll update later with undercarriage damage estimates.

The good thing is that the rack saved the rear of the car's body panels.
