Well I guess the only thing would be for the competitors and shops to stop running ID stuff...that would be a big difference. |

Yeah, I haven't figured out what I'm going to power them with, but they're rated 150 rms/300 max so I'm gonna need something sturdy. Plus some massive spacers and a bit of hope that they'll fit. Not sure how exactly I'm gonna mount the tweeters since I'm a bit hesitant to cut holes in the door panels.

A pillars they only cost ~$25 to replace each but you will be building something to make them fit.

I hadn't thought of that, and I lack the skills to do fab work like that, but thankfully I know enough people from my Car Toys days to get something like that done. I need to dampen the doors and probably the floors too, once I can find the time.

Yeah that will definitely require some fabrication skills to get those ginormous woofer/mid-ranges to fit. WOW!
Like almost as much fab work to get an 8-inch sub to fit in the doors. Maybe kick panels instead of putting them in the doors? That "should" require less fab work and you can even just mock it up with cardboard then but pieces of wood and only have to fiberglass behind it. |

picked up a Pioneer AVIC-X920BT for 399 from my local BestBuy last week. YMMV. Best price I could find online was 600, so that's a good deal.

I really like the Pioneer AVH lines. I don't care much for built-in Navs, as they usually suck. My phone is good enough for me.
I have the AVH-P4100DVD, and it's not bad, but I'd really like to get the 3200 or 3300BT, since they have built in BT that is supposed to integrate well with the iPhone. |

Had an AVHp4300, and the UI works so much better on the X series. While I wish i had the bigger screen the p4300 affords, the UI is so much better!

Pioneer GPS sucks in general. Kenwood is powered by Garmin and works pretty well although Kenwoods have plenty of bugs that kept me away. Clarion NX501 FTW

Kenwood has nice features, but I think the interface looks like crap.
So you say the AVIC > AVH, right? I just like how the AVHs are reasonably priced. |

Not sure, but you're stuck with a single DIN if that's your price range.
Check around amazon, read reviews, or go to any of the websites that have been linked here. Buy.com is another good place. Or go to your local BestBuy and see if they have any closeouts on their headunits. Yeah, I knew that. What makes them better though? Is it just built in Navigation, for most of them? Or do they have higher-voltage preamps? Better DACs? |

I was at BB today, they had the Alpine CDA-105 on clearance for $115. Pretty decent deal for a midrange single din unit.
