Momo shift knob on stock shifter (wrx)
I haven't seen anyone else with this problem but at the end of the threads on my shifter, the shifter gets "fatter" (the only way I can think of saying it. It's like a small flared peice and doesnt even let the momo knob go all the way down. There is no way I could set the screws with the aluminum 'momo' cap on the bottom either, since the cap wont go over that part on the shifter. I have searched and everyone seems to install thiers just fine. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,
-Matt

I noticed this, and that the STi Short Shifter does not have this "feature". If you don't find another solution, perhaps this is incentive to get one of the many short shifter kits!

The stock shifter has a dampener on the shaft to reduce vibrations and this is probably what is in the way. Most people who install Momo knobs already have one of the short shifters, none of which have the dampener. I have the STi shifter with a knob similar to a Momo (mounts the same way) and the shaft is the same size all the way down so installation was no problem.

i have the kartboy short shifter, it felt like the knob didn't go all the way on (maybe a few millimeters left), but with that rubber piece, it still fits very tight, i didnt run into the problem though with the metal screw on piece because i got the boot too. but i can see how it wouldn't have fit on the kartboy, i so for the boot too which screws to the knob instead of that metal piece. i got all yellow, its freekin bright and freekin sweet.

Well, from what Im seeing on my car you can't install the momo shift knob on the stock shifter. Nobody is giving me any information, I already knew that if I had an aftermarket shifter I'd be fine. Oh well. I guess I'll have to just hold onto it until I get a short shifter.

I just said screw the metal thing that screws on the bottom and just stretch the stock boot over the threaded metal bottom. No movement, fits perfectly, looks good Oh, BTW, that is a stock shift lever cut down and welded back together... |
