Again, DON'T OVERFILL!
The capicity is likely 3.7 but you only be able to drain maybe 3.5. |

Put in the cocktail last night. So far so good. I can now get it into 1st at a slow roll whereas before i had to be almost completely stopped, and my 4th gear doesn't grind at all anymore, it used to grind EVERY time i'd shift into fourth. so im pretty happy so far

^ Glad it's working for you.
Just remember you don't need magic fluid to shift into 1st gear. You can get into 1st by double clutching. Put into nuetral, let clutch out - Rev match RPM and speed and push clutch in while sliding into first. I can do this anywhere from 0 PMH up to 33 mph for 1st gear. Now get really fancy and do this while slowing down (ie use your right foot on BOTH the brake and gas at the same time.) I place the left side (big toe) of my foot on the brake and roll my ankle over so that the outside/bottom of my foot and heal are on the gas. Took a little practice, but this is how I always shift down into first if I am coming up to a corner while I have the green light. |

Just rev-matching enough gets me into 1st.

^ Which doesn't help the transmission shift at all.
With the clutch pedal pushed in, you have completely disconnected the engine from the tranny and thus does absolutely nothing. You just happen to be using a fluid that works well with your synchros. I'm sure you knew this already though. But for those that didn't know this - If you really wanted to help assist with rev matching, you need to double clutch and rev match when in neutral with the clutch pedal NOT pressed. Why do you ask? Because when in neutral with the clutch pedal out (not pressed) the clutch and motor have re-engaged with the input shaft on the transmission. It's this shaft that you will then rev to "match" the output shaft/wheels for the specific gear you wish to shift into. If done correctly, you can then shift into gear without even pushing the clutch pedal in (not recommended though as you WILL screw up.) You can then push the clutch pedal in and shift with little delay... it feels buttery smooth if done correctly. |

On my old '92 I would double clutch and that was smoother than rev matching, which just worked okay. On my '98 rev matching is just as smooth as double clutching, pretty buttery. At one time I even had the heal-toe double-clutch down on my '92, which made a simple stop sign pretty dramatic.

With my lightweight flywheel it makes double clutching a PITA. You've gotta be fast.

^ True that! I've got both a light flywheel and pulley - total pita but still doable. (I started with just flywheel, but was forced to change the pulley because the rubber and balance was all shot).

Hi folks, i'm looking at getting an '04 WRX. Sorry for the semi hijack here... i cant post new threads yet, and this one seems somewhat relevant
I test drove an '04 WRX in town here, it was tight... except downshifting into first gear, it ground maybe... 5 times in a 35 minute test drive? No grinding or slipping that i noticed in other gears, and no slipping in 1st either that i noticed. I understand that there is a flaw in the design of the transmission, is this what folks are talking about? I also noticed what felt like engine hesitation when the car was cold, off the lot. It was a cool rainy day, could that have been clutch chatter? (2nd gear, low RPMs) .... this did not happen the rest of the test drive. Thanks in advance for any advice! *** oops! forgot KM's. It's got 84,xxx KM's on it. Everything looks stock. Quote:

Also sorry to somewhat hijack...
Does anyone else run AMSoil Severe Gear (straight)? I was told to run this by a very reputable shop, but don't really see anyone else running it. (It's for a 06 wrx, 5spd) Also, I was told to just keep filling. I bought 4 qts to make sure it's full. I wasn't informed overfilling is a problem. As has been said in the past - Try it and see if you like it. If not, drain it and try something else.

Just out a second round of this drink in. First 35K it worked great. Hopefully it helps my trans go for a little more before it dies!!!! And power upgrades.

My 05 uses a T70. I couldn't find the bit at the local Sears Hardware store (only up to T60), but they had the T70 at the Auto Zone in 3/8" drive.

I tried this in my early 02 rex, after having problems with 3rd gear. Immediately afterward 4th would and still does constantly slip into neutral if holding a relatively steady speed. After a few thousand miles it began to take some effort to put into and take out of gears. At this point i switched back to Royal Purple which i had been using. Some of the problems were not as bad after switching back, but a year later (today) and if i coast in [any] gear it sounds like a semi during full engine braking. My $0.02, proceed with caution. I tried it and it cost me a transmission. Maybe its just my luck, I don't know....
