Default Dispell the myth. RS and WRX wheels are the same for the 05 but....

I'm hearing conflicting reports of what rims I'll rub with.

Now I'm stock right now. 16x6.5 on my '05 RS Wagon and I'm assuming that the WRX Wagon is a 16x6.5 with the same suspension setup (maybe a little better)

but what I'm mainly concerned about is rubbing.

Now I've been told with a 225/45/17x7.5 setup I will rub.

But I somehow magically won't rub with a 215/45/17x75 setup.

Anyone care to ease my brain a little bit.

BTW the wheels I'm looking at are the Rota Torque 17x7.5 with a +48 offset on stock '05 RS Wagon suspension.

thanks guys.

It's not magic, it's a skinnier shorter tire.

if you dont lower it, you wont rub. if you do, depending on how much lower, you may rub. also depends on what tires you put on. 225s are okay for stock ride height.

So then basically I will rub with a 225 size then? Interesting. Is the profile of the tire going to be any different?

The 45 in 225/45 or 215/45 is a ratio of height to width. Therefore 215 will be narrower and lower profile than a 225. A 225/45 tire is different in both respects from a 215/45.

Okay so 215 is lower profile I get that. I guess my next question is... which one is better? if I do plan to lower the car (which I may) it sounds like a 215 would be better.

so it looks like I'm going to go with the 215 size just as a precaution for future mods.

Thanks guys.

nah... go 225's and get your fenders rolled or do it yourself. It will cost you $50 and you can run 235's if you really want to. I ran 225/45 azenis on my car and got rubbing when I had a lot of people in the car- and those are WIDE 225's, closer to being a 235.

I'm gonna be switching to 245's for my next set of tires here, and I'm pretty sure I can make everything fit without rubbing if I'm careful.

You can't discuss the effects of different tire widths (and as obliquely noted above the same nominal width, e.g. 225, doesn't reflect the actual variations between brands and models of tires) w/o also specifying the wheel offset.

The stock wheels, at least for '02, were ET55; if you go to ET48 you've lost 7mm (~0.3") of clearance on the outside of the tire. And that's easily enough to affect the fit when you're pushing the limits...or comparing different brands of the "same size" tire.
