I realized a while back that the labor costs of installing a part are often greater than the cost of the part itself. The main advantage of doing at least some of your own work is that you can afford to buy more parts and do even more stupid stuff.
My time isn't cheap, but it's also not the $100/hr I can expect to pay a mechanic in this neck of the woods. |

As for my dad, he has passed away but yes, I would have loved to have spent time with him .. obviously. If you enjoy working on your car .. great .. but I don't see what bearing that has on my post. You said "Stop being a kitty cat about life and ****ing learn something and do it your self" ... so, yeah, if you insult people prepare to get it back. Quote:
I guess I'm just tired of the 'do it yourself or you suck' attitude that is so prevalent around here. Why is it so reprehensible to pay an expert to do what they love so that I can do what I love? |

I just don't feel it is fair to insult people who DON'T do the work themselves. There are reasons other than laziness. Hell, I could be a douche and just call those people who do their own work cheap .. but I guess I don't feel the need to insult those who make different choices than I do unless they throw the first shot. |

No OT bull**** please. Back to the story at hand. I really have gotten any stupid things at the shop. It's mostly been maintenance stuff.
Edit: just had a kid one in and tell me he is leaking tranny fluid and that it is shifting hard now. So after talking with him about the leak he tells me it was a smaller leak so he put some STOP LEAK in it... Oh Lordy this is going to be ugly. Last edited by Jdub.csu; 10-19-2012 at 06:03 PM. |

When I was a broke college student I couldn't afford to replace my terribly worn and warped rotors. I was in the shop for something else and before I could leave they made me sign something that said they told me about the problem and that I refused to have it repaired. Is this common? Wouldn't that be a similar situation to cover your butt?
