In fact, a basic seat cover is probably better than a really good one in the winter, I'll be able to feel the heated seats.
I thought there was only one type of fabric, which is the black sports fabric. I'm assuming a nicer seat cover would work too, as long as there isn't too much padding so the heated seats still work.

There are three seat fabrics. Tricot cloth, striped cloth, and leather.

So now I am working on a list of "mods" for the car.

Headunit - Thinking one of the newer Pioneer units
Speakers - Leaning towards Focal, but good ones aren't cheap....
Roof Rack - Yakima (my employer is a dealer, I get discounts )
Rally Armor Mud Flaps
Window Tint
Layer of sound dampening in the rear (I think someone said they could just lay it around the spare tire area)
Floor Mats - Weathertec or the Subaru all-weather, not sure

That should be just about all I need. Car is the DD so I don't want to play with the engine or anything like that.

I suggest marine-grade speakers. A member on here took his stock speakers out and they were WET!

it would be interesting if there really is a qualitative sound level difference in putting sound damping in the spare tire area. please let us know if you have success with that. i'm not displeased with the sound level in my car, but if lining that area has a profound effect, that's a cheap/easy install.

are people still reporting on wet window/weeping hole issues? i have washed my car once and didn't notice any appreciable build up of water even when i purposefully shot water at the windows to try and get them extra wet.

If I do it, I might be able to rig some mics in there to see what I get. Disable AGC and the likes so that the mic input levels actually change....

Not much rain/car wash water gets in my doors so they seems fairly well sealed. But when some water does get in, it doesn't come out the weeping hole until I open the door. I discovered this by spilling a drink in the door pocket. The next time I opened the door, 20 miles later, the drink came out

I have the subaru all weather mats and they are cheap for a reason, they don't do much. I contacted weathertech and said they don't have anything in development. That was about a week and a half ago. Can't wait to get floorliners!

Got a reply regarding the WeatherTech mats this morning:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting MacNeil Automotive. I do apologize for the delayed response to your email. We do not have the 2012 floor liners for your vehicle just yet. We are estimating about 2 months. Please feel free to fill out the product request form located on our website under the customer service link. We would be happy to contact you if and when they become available. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. We are happy to assist you.
Not sure how reliable this is, but it's at least hopeful they might be out relatively soon.

Thanks for posting this! That's better than the response that I got. How can they estimate 2 months if they say "if and when". Either way, can't wait until they come out.

Got that same reply in January. I think that they are looking at the demand, hence the request for you to fill out the product request form. The more requests = quicker availability.

i think the OEM all weather mats usefulness depends on your climate. for this rain/mostly sun climate in CA: they work well enough and better than the carpeted ones that came with the car.

that would be great. please report back should you do it.

although i'd be content enough to have you drive down the same rough road with a Radio Shack Sound level meter set to a proper 10db range to see if there is a measureable drop in noise (radio off! from either the driver's seat or a passenger seat.

That was me!

So far no problems with the Polks, though I sort of wish I spent a little more for upgraded quality. Still, the 651 is much better than stock speakers.
______________

I need more watts!!!!!

But I want something that is plug-compatible with the Subaru harness. I guess I should check out the audio thread, eh?

problem is finding speakers that are sensitive to use with the lower power output HU...so unless you upgrade the head unit, you'll have to make sure you don't get speakers which are too power hungry.

Default Focus over the Impreza?

I joined while looking for others to commiserate with about the unbelievably long wait I am having for my Sport Limited (7 weeks and counting). Since everyone seems to get theirs in a few weeks, I must be the unlucky one, so I thought I'd chip in on this thread, as I might have a bit of relevent input.

I rented the 2012 Focus, and there's no comparison. The Ford is amateur-tech overkill, while the Impreza is a lot more sophisticated. 220 HP in the Ford couldn't touch the 148 HP of the Subaru. The Subaru felt quick and like potential trouble if John Law's around. Plus, if I sell it in 10 years, the Impreza will be sellable at a good price, the Ford will be dead. Wanted to like it, but the tranny, steering, and Space Shuttle button arrays made me laugh. I like the "Spartan" Impreza. Who needs a number keypad cluttering up their dash? To make a phone call?

You are not the only one having to wait, there are people who have waited nearly 4 months, I am just over 3 months of waiting for my order. Did you order nav?

BigVox,
Do you have a VIN yet? If not then you need to start calling SOA. I just got my VIN yesterday after 111 days and it took weekly calls and emails to SOA since the end of March (the 6 week mark).

Hempy asked about Nav because car orders with Nav are taking much longer to deliver than cars without. For example my order is for a 5-door Limited with Nav.

The good part is that SOA stopped taking new orders on Apr 23rd and since then deliveries have sped up considerably.

I've been waiting almost 10 weeks for mine so far . . . delivery estimate is "month of may" but we still don't have a VIN

J-Rod,
FYI SOA just started working Saturdays last weekend and I believe the are answering calls from 9:00 to 3:00. You should give them a call so they log it because the more calls you make the better chance you have of getting your case elevated to management.

Don't be suprised if they say they'll call your dealer and your regional office to find out what's going on as I danced that dance with them several times. They actually did that yesterday and I pointed out that neither the dealer or the regional office isn't going to be able to answer that. I told them they need to find out from the factory why your order hasn't been built before they try to find out why it hasn't shipped. My conversation also included "you need to go up the chain because going down the chain is pointless". About 10 minutes after my call they called back with a VIN and a delivery date.

No wait-list for the Impreza in Canada. There are so many of them at every dealer and lots of 5spd too and black color.
