Haha nice! Yeah I just don't see the big deal. I average 31-33 without trying really and I don't have any of the so called oil consumption issues either so I guess I'm lucky!

Just because I can beat it on a one mile two way flat and level test in the summer doesn't mean it applies to the realities of everyday driving.

Sorry, but Post-Purchase Rationalization is big here, and the fact is the Impreza cvt (key here being cvt) doesn't live up to EPA fuel economy ratings like other vehicles.

Agreed, the key component here is the CVT!!! I have 4k on my car now.. I know all it's little quirks and know how to drive it in the most efficient way possible.

The point is that some of us purchased the car based upon MPG expectations and the CVT, CVT, CVT, CVT, CVT, CVT does not live up to the window sticker. You can show me all the dash pix you want. I live with my car everyday. Hand calc is the only true way to tell your MPG so if your not hand calc your claims are prob inflated and innacurate. I would love to hear a North East CVT owner stating that they are getting 30MPG+ hand calc.

Havent had a tank under 30mpg calculated. So you obviously don't "know how to drive it in the most efficient way possible."

Actually I suspect quite a few do - based on the maximum speed limit map here:

Highest mpg is not "the most efficient way possible". It's only the cheapest way possible, if your time is worth nothing.

Yes, cvt.

Steve must be tired since he doesnt sleep. Because if he did, imagine all that money he would be losing out on since his time in so valuable.

Your car cant go 70mph at 40mpg? Subaru definitely owes you money.

In the US, all Limiteds have the CVT transmission, and the person you are questioning indicates that he has a Limited, right under his User ID.

So not only was your first reply unnecessary, so was the second (besides being redundant).

Of course, because:
  1. Anyone who posts that they get at or above the EPA figures is a total liar or works for Subaru
  2. Anyone who gets under the EPA numbers is telling the truth, and proof of a conspiracy between Subaru and the EPA to rig the numbers.
  3. 1.5 million miles tracked on Fuelly, irrelevant...
Gotcha! Good logic there.

All my posts are unnecessary, the redundancy was for the Devil. Yes.. I am def not a Subaru nerd, now owning one never will be. But that is the best part, I am just pointing out real life facts about the CVT MPG's, not biased like many on here, hint. Seriously, just stating my CVT MPG's and as to why???? I want to achieve the Window Sticker and have tirelessy tried to no avail.

I am not calling him a liar.. Did realize after the fact his sig states limited, and I appreciate that he doesn't like Lester Glenn as well, do not recomend them. Dont know what he is doing so differently that hand calc he is always above 30mpg, where I have never achieved a hand calc 30 MPG+ tank. There has to be a reason. And please dont tell me it is how I drive. PLEASE... actually dont tell me anything... you dont even have a CVT. Doubt there is another North East owner above 30MPG

Anybody want to buy a 13 SWP Spt Lmtd, Moonroof, Mint, with aftermarket SAT Radio and horrible MPG's. 4k miles. "Zeeper Scubie, your my hero" . Name the movie lol

What are your build dates? I just had the ECM reprogrammed on mine (11-115-12). It is like night and day for the engine braking which I feel will lead to better MPGs. My build date was 11/11 btw. I would suggest doing the reprogramming if your car was built in 2011.

Well first of all Mr gti, calculated is only 1-3 less then displayed mpg. And calculated is somewhat erroneous as well considering the odometers are slightly off. So I would avg out the two for the best answer.

Second of all my numbers are so high because round trip I drive 3.5 hours a day through 50/55 mph roads with the last 20 mins on the interstate. So lots of highway miles with a hot engine. My short weekend drives are plagued with low mpg as well.

You can trade in your car for a nice price. These cars lose hardly any resale in first couple years esp to non-subaru dealerships.

good luck.

myrt1987, appreciate the detailed response. Sounds like your travel habbits are a niche sample for MPG comparisons, ie, understand how you may be achieving your numbers, but that stated, your prob not the best example of combined real world driving based upon my window sticker (zeeper scubie).

I hope your statement holds true b/c I truley dont see myself keeping this car past the warranty period. Listen.. the car is not a bad driving car.. it is actually quite roomy, great in the rain and I enjoy the a/t for my commute. I am just so pissed off about the advertising and internet reviews of this car stating the CVT MPG's when in real life for what I feel most drivers experience,, is not really possible ie, over inflated. That is the reason for my posts. Good Luck to you as well! Zeeper, please dont chime in.. this was a CVT moment, even if I did put you in my post. Ty

My mpg has finally dipped below epa combined 28, so once the good gas and Warmer weather comes back I should be back to beating epa combined :-)

First, a kind request:
Would you all please stop quoting vwgti and stevehnm? I have their posts blocked but their ludicrous opinions are damaging my retinas when quoted.

Second, I recently learned about the grille shutters on the Cruze.
http://www.greencarreports.com/news/...lp-improve-mpg
I wonder how difficult it would be to fashion a similar system (or even a ghetto rigged one with foam or something) for the Imp primarily to more quickly warm the engine bay on frosty mornings. Anyone ever test something like this?

I should've googled first. The eco crowd is on this grille blocking stuff like crazy.

The new Focus comes with active grill shutters also. However I do not know if they close to help the car warm up faster. From my understanding of how they work they are present to close off the grill under certain conditions. I believe they might only be good for 1 or 2 mpg. I know the Focus warms up pretty fast, however when the temp guage reads normal it isn't close to being completely warmed up yet.
