Weird. Sure looks like yours lasted a lot longer than mine.

With the single, I would imagine it would have more of a Honda sound than utilizing the dual exhaust setup. However, even those setups sound like a Honda to me under load with a EL header setup. There is no doubt that EL produces more power though.
Woo hoo! One person agrees with me!

Hopefully I can find time to do an exhaust video tonight...

It's hard to really hear the true sound of it with the EWG but I'm liking it. I ran into someone last week running ELH with a quad tip (don't know the brand) and it sounded like complete garbage. Yours on the other hand sounds like a race car.

I thought it was the unequal-length headers that gave it the boxer tone.

It did change the sound of the EWG. Sounds more high pitched now. The revving video I'm uploading now might be a better representation of the sound, but it's still not the same as while driving because there is no load.

Unequal lengths headers are what causes the pulsed, "rumbly" tone. He's just saying that even with Equal length it doesn't sound quite like a Honda or other 4 cyl. I'd agree, but it's not really because of the "boxer tone", it probably has more to do with the fact that it has a turbo and a bunch of really long pipes before the turbo.

What were your power gains? You obviously got re-tuned?

The boxer motor still has it's own unique sound compared to a inline-4. The factory UEL header just makes it that much more obvious. One thing I've noticed about EL headers is the faster the car is the better they seem to sound. EL headers on a 250whp car don't sound as cool as EL headers on a 450whp car

I actually really like the way they sound in your video. They always sound better under load than just revving it.

It does have a certain fart-can quality to it.

Nope, definitely did not read the link at all. Should have known you had that covered. Just read it, nice write up as usual. I'm curious to see the results.

Very nice! I would still have to get an UEH... I couldn't loose that rumble. Sounds as if you're running a little richer now, btw.

Yeah...it sounds a lot different. You need to do one under load as well. Here is a GReddy comparison video since we are just posting random videos on your build thread these days.

I think that any remaining "boxer sound" is due to the mile long headers (even with equal length). The "rumble" is due to the unequal length headers.

Yes, yes it does. Very Fast and Furious

I couldn't care less about "rumble" if this makes me faster Also, sounds can be deceiving. I have a wideband gauge. I am running close to a point leaner. I was tuned conservatively enough (AFR-wise), that I'm not too risky right now. I will be getting it tweaked soon though.

I don't have any way to load it like a dyno for a video, but I think I can get a GoPro video of the rear of the car someday. I need to figure out how to mount it like you did. The one time I did a test run, I had it at an angle and pointed down. Sounded pretty decent, but made you nauseous trying to watch it.

BTW, you are way better at editing video than me...

Here's a video comparing the sound of the stock headers to that of the Invidia equal length headers:

The best comparison (IMO) is near the end when I'm bouncing on the LC rev limiter.

I still some hear Subaru in there... I think our valve timing still adds it's own tone as much as anything else. Change that and you'd truly remove any of the "boxer" tone.

Also... with respect to the wrap- if you both started with the same roll and used the whole thing; yours is better insulated (if your wrap style is truly less surface area, depends on pipe separation). Means yours has more overlap + is a bit thicker as a result.
