How to Reset ECU?
OBDII reader keeps showing a code, even after I reset it. There was a Recall years ago that said that there were bad ECU's that always had the CEL lit for "no reason". This particular code is regarding the front O2 sensor, which passes all voltage and continuity tests...usually with this type of code, it takes at least a few minutes of faulty action to trigger the CEL. No matter what, the CEL is illuminated immediately.
Using the search function, I was reading a thread where the ECU can be reset by disconnecting the battery and pumping the brakes...this was regarding a WRX. Is this method correct for my '00 Legacy (non-turbo 2.5L)? If not, how do I reset? PS-- I have been to Advance Auto and Autozone, and while they check the codes for me they cannot reset...I have an OBDII scanner that has proven faulty in the past, so this ECU reset + fresh read is my last resort before going to Subaru and paying $100 just for a stupid scan...plus any other fees for checking for my Recall.

I think its as simple as disconnecting your battery and pushing the break a couple of times to run the juice out. Probally the same for all models.
Someone else chime in? |

Just tried it, but now I can't find my OBDII scanner...figures
Off to dinner, check along the way. I'll look for my scanner when I get home if the CEL is still illuminated. |

What is the code?
A lot of faults in the manual say this: DTC DETECTING CONDITION: Immediately at fault recognition |

CEL was off for about 3 seconds, then came right back on.
I think the code was either P1130 or P1131, a fault with the front O2 sensor's circuitry. I can't find my scanner at the moment (somewhere in the garage, or the car maybe) so I can't confirm. |

this indicates a fault somewhere...not a faulty ecu
if the ecu was truly faulty, there would almost certainly be more issues associated with the failure this kind of thing may require the factory manual and some sleuthing |

Found some images of wiring diagrams and the fault trace and steps for each particular Code, but I think it's for the WRX. I've already checked continuity and voltage for the O2 sensor, and Gilman Subaru SW wants $100 just to look at it....a new sensor (DENSO OEM #234-9018) is $135.34 best I've found from SparkPlugs.com.......I'd hate to spend $100 + $135 just to confirm, when it could be just a faulty ECU...my VIN does show that it was one of the cars that fell under the Recall for bad ECU's (for CEL's remaining on for no reason), but was supposedly replaced under warranty in 2002....but who knows, to find out if the ECU is bad again it's another $100. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. There's a Mossberg shotgun with my name on it for about that price, I'd rather have the shotgun
