Default f/s Specialized Epic MTN bike

Hey, I am looking to sell my new Mountain bike, It is a 03 specialized epic full suspension with the brain technology. It is a medum frame and it has the best cross country fork available from manatou, the skarab. it is air, compresson and rebound ajustable. the rear brain shock is air and compression ajustable. it has a super lightweight xt and xtr package, mavic 517 rims. Lightest mavic rims you can get. It also comes with thompson competition stem, ritchey rister race light bars, ritchey race light seat post. avid single digit 3 brakes. It also comes with shimano 959 peadals, the only spd pedal worth buying, sheds mud like nothing else. it is an m4 frame but the complete package weighs less than the M5 s-works! Weight for this full suspension cross country race bike is a light 24.9 pounds!!! I have had this bike for a couple of months and I need to sell it as the bike shop I worked at is going bankrupt(no job). This bike is in perfect condition, and was maintained by a bike shop mechanic. I keep this bike in better condition than my car! I am looking to get 2200 or best offer for it, as it is worth well over 4 grand. I will have pictures posted shortly, if you have any questions or want pictures, email me at socrates4242 at hotmail.com Thanks for your interest!

Don't mean to jump the thread, but if you are looking to get into DH, I am currently disassembling a Rocky Mounatin RM6 and am going to sell the frame. I am looking to around $450 for the frame, headset and seatpost. I almost got happy at your ad, I am also in the process of looking for a Specializrd Enduro.

Good luck with the sale!

My buddy is selling me his intense M1 for cheap, its a year older but after having the brain, you come to appreciate the technology in shocks. and the 5th element is a tight ass shock!

attn all:

This post seems VERY fishy to me for the following reasons:
-brand new Epic from the factory in size Medium weighs 27-28lbs.
-brand new 03 Epic original early launch msrp was only $2099.
-brand new 03 Epics left on showroom floors now sell at $1700.
-Manitou's Skareb is HARDLY their top of the line XC fork.
-The Skareb that came on the Epic was not independently adjustable for compression and rebound
-Specialized shipped out Fox Forx 4 months ago to replace all the Skarebs
-The M4 Epic frame weighs quite a bit more than the M5 frame
-Definitely not worth $4000.

-This bike, if it has only XT and XTR components on it has been "modded" which means the seller has taken the stock parts off and placed new (better?) ones on. If the bike has been truly modded to the level of the "S-Works Epic" then it needs to be mentioned by the seller, since the basic "Epic" doesn't cost anywhere NEAR $4000.

If anybody doubts my claims or would like to check on the truths of this bike, please call a currently authorized Specialized Dealer. One I can think of is All Star Bike Shop in Raleigh, NC. (919) 876-9876.

I'm guessing the wheels, pedals, etc add quite a bit to the value of the bike... So I wouldn't be surprised to see it sell for a little more. It's pretty harsh to immediately jump down his throat and ruin his chances of a sale by calling him a crook without talking to him first I'd say. Can't we keep things civil on here for once?

if he has added enough high-dollar hardware to this bike to make it worth $4000, i'd like to see a complete list!

Don't get me wrong, the EPIC is a really decent bike, but the price seems to high for what is listed.

Allright first off, I will say that you are right that the m4 epic does weigh 28 pounds, however this was not a factory bike, It was bought frame and shock only. It was built up from there with race spec parts. As I was a bike shop employee I spared no expense.

here are the specs for the front fork
Skareb Super
Weight 3 lbs
Travel 80 mm
Damping TPC
Adjustments Air, Rebound, Compression, Lockout
Lubrication Semi-Bath with Evil Genius Seals
Spring Air/Coil
Casting Magnesium RA
Stanchions 28.6 mm aluminum
Steerer Aluminum

Second it is not built with your standard xt/xtr package, for example the chainring on the front has been expertly drilled by shimano for lighter weight, just like JUN flywheels for cars. Also unlike new rapidrise, the xtr rear derailer is standard swing, with titanium springs. This means that the shifting says more precise for longer periods of time and it is easier to tune. In addition this bike has Mavic 517 rims, and according to mavic's website:
Lightweight rim for Cross Country racing.
benefits
Lightweight performance due to the Maxtal SUP™ welded rim.
technical features
- Weight : 395g.
- Drilling : 28, 32, 36.
these rims are matched with xt hubs with lightweight spokes and nipples. these are the best rims you can buy with shimano hubs. This is only some of the hardware on this bike, which all told cost me 3500 with my bike shop discount, so it is not far fetched to be asking 4000 dollars for this bike, however I am not asking that much, because like alot of people on this board, i have been affected by the slowdown in the economy. Therefore this bike needs to be sold. I am asking a reasonable price, and I would apprecaite not being attacked for trying to sell what I belive is a bad a$$ bike.
