Having obtained an intact cam sprocket, the Timing belt and the tensioner was installed today. Also completed stripping of the halfcut chassis. Does anybody know somebody that can safely evacuate the H134a from the aircon?

Soooo, we made some more progress today. Finally the renovation guys are done, so we put the Forester into the garage, next to the halfcut.
where we attacked it from two angles at once. Hood off, radiator out, airbox out, battery, wash tank out. Only power steering, heater core and AC left. The other front of this battle: Interior. Working on pulling the steering column, and the dash beam. Then pull the bulkhead wiring, and off it goes to iWire. oh Yay SGP sent my stuff =) |

Nice... looks good. My car was halfway there the other day (I left the upper dash in place though). I'm jealous of how much you can strip off your car... I have to make sure mine's put back together every so often so I can actually drive it around.

Ouch... at least I'm fortunate enough to not have to go anywhere lately... I had my car in pieces for three or four days, trying to put my sound system in, and only managed to get it put back together on Saturday, in time to get down to the fireworks.

So, got it jacked up, fenders off
pulled the rest of the wiring from the dash, had to pull the HVAC. My AC had no refridgerant anyways. Also pulled the two rear hubs, lateral links and R160, replaced with the STi hubs, slightly longer lat links (5mm i think) and R180. Next up, remove 5MT... Looks good... Looks so nice and clean without all the wiring in there. Makes me want to do a GC dash swap so I can have the upper dash pod...

Its not too bad, most of the stuff has been off before, when I did the rear hub swap for the 4/2pot brakes and when I deleted the front spacers.

Minor progress today, worked on it for about an hour or so. Got the rear end squared away, swapped out the handbrake cables and put on the brembos
Meanwhile, mcwc installed the pedal covers from the donor car.. much easier to do without the dash in the way. |

Got quite a bit done today.
Finished up the gas pedal, replaced the springpin with a bolt and put that back in then removed the left and right front hubs in preparation to remove the gearbox Separate the gearbox from the old EJ251 Goodbye 5MT! |

Nice... Are you going to get the engine bay cleaned up (and resprayed) before you put in the new engine/transmission? I'd get it done in a lighter colour, like a grey or something. It'll get dirty a lot quicker, but you'll be able to see if you have any leaks or anything.
I still think you should shave and wire-tuck your engine bay (here's a little something to convince you: Shaved & Wire-Tucked)... Yes, it's more work, but think about how much you're already doing, and how much better it would look with that... |

Yo, nice to talk to you guys about the swap tonight =). I'll definately be watching this thread for updates lol.
And just incase you are interested in the 5x100 BBS wheels, here is the website I was talking about. http://www.subiedeals.com/subaru-brand/bbs I already see a set of Gold 5x100 BBS wheels for $600, but it's a bid though. Also, check the US Nasioc private sales, I see them all the time =D |

5MT is sunbathing outside. Nothing wrong with it. You gonna knock out your subframe spacers while you're at it? I got all the braces and brackets and stuff. You'll also want to check your rear diff ratio, make sure its the same?

a word of advice, install the gearbox first and then drop the motor onto that. trying to wiggle that 6mt around on your back under a car on jackstands sucks. its a pain in the ass to get it to fit and its heavy as ****.
once the tranny is installed, just jack the tranny up about 1-1.5" so the motor mounts clear, make sure the pilot bearing/shaft have a LITTLE grease on them, put a little grease on the dowel pins too. of course the easiest way would be to assemble the engine and tranny out of the car and bolt them to the subframes then just jack them up lol. |
