ok, well it has to do with fuel or spark then most likely, turbo could be bad too, lots of variables, with out a wideband and computer on the car its hard to diagnose and if its something that only happens so often.

Sounds like a classic boost leak issue.. Look for wet spots around the throttle body and intercooler hoses. Do a boost leak check if you can make the tool or borrow one.

Vaccum and pressure tests have checked out. I hit 15.8 psi the other night which from what I've read is peak boost for the cobb stage 2 map. Still at a loss... thanks for the responses so far gang! Keep the ideas coming!

Did you check for boost leaks with a proper pressure test or at least go and check all hoses and clamps?
Just because it makes the proper boost means nothing in terms of a leak or not. A leak after the turbo will cause the system to go rich and will cause excessive intake temps. Other possible issues are MAF, fuel pressure issues, wrong gap on plugs or weak ignition system. The list kind goes from there. We see dozens of these cars in the shop and 90% of the time they have boost leaks. The cobb tunes are simple and conservative. If your not running right on a cobb tune with the specific ok mods then its going to be something fairly basic. Can you send me a screen shot of your learned fuel trims and knock values. You can down load racetuner from cobb to do this. Seth P3 Import Autowerks 907.355.6655 |

I dont feel a leak in the downpipe coming off the turbo when I have somebody rev the engine a bit.. thw spark plugs are brand new factory plugs gapped at .03 I believe. Should I regap them to .028 or .025??
I had a shop, fw motorsports, check for boost leaks. I assume they used the proper tool for such... I will send you the photo tonight after work for some further feedback. Maybe I can send a data log as well. |

Your gap is ok for what you are running.
The downpipe plays no role here unless it or the exhaust is blocked. Being a shop owner myself I have to ask, what did the shop you took it to think the problem is? I think its fairly safe to assume this is not a tuning issue as well if you are using off the shelf cobb maps. Take a look at your AP and tell me what the dynamic advance multiplier is at if you have not reset the ecu. Seth P3 Import Autowerks 907.355.6655 Quote:

Well that is good. If it was knocking bad enough or had more severe issues that number would start to drop. On the happy scale your a 10 out of 10. I will also see this number drop when boost leaks of significant amounts are present.
So that still leaves some issues. As already stated by Gabe here you need to get more tools, a wide band gauge is going to help a lot to show us how fuel is going once you WOT. Without that tool you have no idea what your AFR is at. Your logs using the AP will not give you readings that can be used really. Honestly I think your best bet will be to get to a shop that knows these cars well and spend a few bucks to have them check it out. I'm sure eventually you can figure this out but in depth diagnostics can take a while and not having the tools you need and the experience will cost you in time which for most people still equals money. |

But that is in 2wd. I'm curious to see the difference it makes. Maybe nomad or someone else who had their car on Nicks dyno can put it on Seth's. it would be interesting to see. |

With that said granny, and I'm sure you've searched this, your not normally going to see the same numbers on two different dyno's in two different areas in the state or city, the dyno at Underground is a Dynojet where as I believe the one that P3 has is a Mustang? (Seth please correct me on the dyno you have if I'm wrong) it also depends on what correction factor is being used, granny there are alot of variables to account for. Honestly the dyno is just a tool being used, best way to judge increases really is get a baseline number after 3 pulls and then do it again after all mods and tune are completed and see what kind of percentage of gain has really been made. |

Our dyno at P3 Import Autowerks is a Mustang dyno. It has been fully calibrated and certified. Mustang dynos are known as the "heart breakers" in the industry and tend to read much lower than other dynos. There are also different methods used to measure power output depending on the dyno used.
Our dyno is fitted with the latest technology and is capable of self calibration and correction factors based on a ton of factors including what it reads at its weather station. Before each car is tested we also run thru a parasitic loss calibration for each car to make the numbers even more accurate. Once we have the system calibrated for the specific car we can then save those settings in the system for the next time it is tested. These kind of profiles allow us to measure drive line losses as well and can help use detect issues with transmission or drive line losses that are excessive. Our setup can be run as AWD linked, 2WD linked or unlinked. As stated here I would not get hung up on numbers from one dyno to another. On a side note it is also quite easy for a shop to manipulate results as well. Whats important is a solid base line of your car before mods and then readings after mods and tuning. One final thing to consider is that although it is possible to simulate proper road conditions on a dyno, the reality is that its not economical. For instance we use very large high volume fans to attempt to provide air flow to cool the engine, intake, intercoolers, etc. However it would take an even more significant amount of equipment and investment to be able to provide the kind of air flow your car would experience at say 45mph or more. So this means intake temps alone can be a good deal higher then they would be out on the road. I'm sure every turbo car owner here can notice the difference in the seat when it comes to hot weather vs cold weather and what a difference it can make. I have seen almost 100whp difference so far in a car from the first run to the run where we knew heat soak was taking over. In some theory a car that reads say 400whp may be closer to 450whp or more when out on the road with proper cooling and conditions. Quote:

I can run you thru tests to show your WHP and estimated crank power as well by measuring your drive line losses.
