Default '05 Wrx Tire Question

Looking to pick up a set of tires, the wheels I have are 17" x 7.5", 5x100, +48 offset. I was wondering if I should go with 225/45/17 or 235/45/17 tires. The difference is $1 more per tire for the 235's. Thanks.

Either tire will fit just fine on those wheels and you won't have any clearance issues. The 225 should give you very slightly better gas mileage but the 235 will have a wider footprint for better grip. Your choice.

Cool....thx for the input. I know from Tirerack they recommend the 225/45/17's as optimal. I'm increasing from the stock wheel/tire combo right now of 16x6.5" and 205/55/16 tires(Potenza G019 Grids-ugh!) The new tires will be the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO either way.

I have had 2 sets of 225 on that same size wheel. They feel and look good.

There was alot of cursing 3 months into owning the new tires(well the car was new to me at the time) and the sidewalls are too soft, the tread wears down as if its a 180 instead of a 460, ugh!!! it was just terrible...

So I plan to burn all 4 tires right off my car before I put the newer wheels and new tires on......F you, Potenza!!! lol

Any particular reason for the 215's over the 225's? Better fit, wear, etc? My car is a sedan so I believe I have the extra clearance in the fenders, correct?

Oh yeah....Potenzas will be then I will be

just do yourself a favor and avoid the v12 hankooks....if you do NOT buy the hankooks....a 225/45 will be fine

Soooo.....I went against the grain on this one. Bought the Hankooks in a 235/45/17 97V. Brand new. And....they were only $100 for all 4 plus mounting and balancing.

On a side note, they ride incredibly quiet and smooth, yet hold up under tight cornering. I won't ever use them for auto-x, course or anything like that, but for a daily driver and the price it was impossible to turn down.

I work at a dealership...can't put directional tires on the Hondas/Acuras here when they are Certified vehicles...sooo instead of just sending them off to be re-sold/junked, i picked them up from my Tech who took them off the car. Treadwear is right at 9/32's.

You are right, they are slightly large, but I haven't had any issues yet. Hasn't hurt mileage much, maybe 1 or 2 mpg overall, but I'm still averaging 30 on the highway with the CT tune.
