Wish the 08 Nav HU had this. Missed that on a older truck that had it.

I actually don't care for it ... there are two settings for how "aggressive" the volume change is and I don't feel like either setting makes it work for me...

as long as the back end fits into the metal supports id like to try to get one fabbed up in my GC, would match what i have envisioned for my interior perfectly. seems like i could just modify the bezel in my dash that goes over it with a hair dryer without too much hassle, but id really like to get a better idea before i buy one (as it sounds like itd be tough to turn around and try to sell ) |

sorry, i meant fitting the stock 08-10 stereo into an older dash which uses the regular double din.
but i actually just heard back from somebody that the front is ~8 1/8" wide which is almost 1 1/4" wider than the older silver double din stereos... |

To connect the factory aux harness to an aftermarket HU, you can use something like this: Or if you're keeping your factory HU but your car didn't include the OEM aux jack, Subaru offers an accessory kit to add the jack. To connect an aux device to an OEM radio that you're "transplanting" into another model or year, you can use this: |

you made getting to the radio a lot harder than it is. The panel around the radio with the vents just pops out:
http://metraonline.com/files/products/INST95-8902.pdf this clips are extremely stubborn though. just be careful with how you pry on it and use non-marring tools (aka dont use a flat head screw driver) |

The information on removal of the dash and radio was extremely helpful! Also good information on the aux input.
I just finished getting the stock usb adapter working for my aftermarket hu. I'll be posting a guide once I get a couple more posts, but everything appears to work properly. I'm doing an amp install soon as well with an old sub and amp that I pulled from my last car. |

So when you're popping off the A-Pillar do you remove the screw that you see there? Obviously I don't want to blow the bag so what would you suggest is the safest way to remove the pillar? I need to remove it to run my BT mic.

yeah, you remove the screw that is exposed once you remove the cover piece. Then, holding onto the a-pillar, pull up and back. there are no screws/clips besides that one screw. Make sure (i learned this the hard way) when you are putting it back in place, you push the cover into the pillar where the pink circle clip is. The top of that clip slides into the a-pillar cover. It is very finiky, and you have to push decently hard for it to clip in. Hope that made some sense, i'm sure when you see it, it will all come together.

VSS wire confirmed on 08 WRX
I can confirm that the VSS wire can be tapped behind the gauge cluster on pin 31 I think it was. It is pink/green like others mentioned. Getting the cluster out for me was the harder part but that was in actually not to hard just pull it all out.
My AVIC recognized the pulses fine and I'll see over the next few days if the Navi unit learns the pulses properly and adjusts accordingly. |

Screws...
Sorry to bump this thread but I'm new here and can't create my own until I have three posts, and I have a question. I recently purchased a 09 WRX with an Alpine iDA-X305S already installed. I needed to get to the back of the unit to install a USB cable.
I started putting it back together and dropped a screw. It plinkoed all the way down to what sounded like carpet. I've almost torn my car apart looking for it, it's lost. I want to replace the screw but can't find one. I've been to two hardware (Lowe's and Home Depot) stores and two part stores (O'Riley and Autozone) with no luck. Where can I buy one of these (or a suitable replacement): Used without permission from this thread (sorry): Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried to search for this answer but it's not the most search friendly question. Thanks! |

Errr... Went a bid overboard did you? Magnets are awesome...Try again at hd. Just pick up a sheet metal screw of similar length and width. Prolly a #10 pan head.

An aftermarket HU will want to connect to both the Red (+12V Ignition/switched) and Yellow (+12V Battery/Constant) leads. |

I had a quick question. I have a 9/07 2008 Impreza 2.5i. My questions has to do with reattaching the lower trim panel piece where the heater/air conditioning switches are. From the pictures posted on this thread it appears if your unit is a solid piece only requiring electrical connections to make it work. Mine actually has two cables running to the unit. I was able to remove the screws holding the trim piece on, but there is no room in order to try and put them in place and get a screwdriver there to reattach the unit. Has anyone else run into this problem? And what did you do to fix it? I ask because my friend works at a body shop. I brought my car in as here in CT we had a freak storm in OCT and someone hit my car and took off. Long story short, my friend was able to get the painter at the body shop to paint all those trim panels the same color as my car, pearl white! I had to do remove the pieces in order for him to do it and removing was no where near as bad trying to figure getting them back on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dumb question—Will the factory brackets that hold the factory stereo in place in the dash properly attach to an aftermarket head unit? I realized that I have no other provisions to actually mount my new stereo to the car.
