New to forums, need input on buying used STi
Hello folks! I've been visiting NASIOC every so often to see what's going on but I've recently signed up a week ago. As you can see from my screen name, I currently own an EVO (03 model) and I've been thinking about trading up to a newer car. There's only 4 cars on my list, the EVO IX, the STI, the 07 EVO X and the 07 STI, the last two obviously havent been released yet. Now, the EVO IX is an obvious choice but I was also thinking about the STI. I intially wanted an STI when I making my purchase two years ago but went with the EVO because it was a lot cheaper (and the Subie dealers at that time were asking $3000 markup!). In any case, other than looks, what are the significant differences with the 05 and 06 model STIs? The backend of the 06 is fine with me but the front does take a lot of getting used to (and I still havent). If I were to get an 05 used, what common issues should I look for in a used specimen? Also what's the warranty period for the STI? Lastly, what are current rumors/speculations on the 07 STI? I've read a few post on here but nothing definitive that would convince me to just wait for it. Thanks in advance!

Read the articles there are plenty singing the 06 STI's praises.
New torque split and steering sensors have changed the handling dynamics for the better. 06 is def an acquired taste, but for me the 04-05 front end always looked kind of bland, but thats coming from a guy that got the 06. It is a matter of personal taste. Have you checked out the 06 in person yet? I get nothing but compliments on my car. I was sold the minute I walked onto the lot and even more sold after driving it. Good luck with your decision. Last edited by STix66; 03-03-2006 at 10:56 AM. |
