Very odd problem with my subie, need some clues.
i'm starting to hear a very high pitched noise coming from the center console area. the noise gets higher the faster i go, then of course it gets quiet when i slow down. i'm thinking it has something to do with my AC. i turned the air completely off but i still felt cool air coming out, it felt like it was set to 2. the noise seems to get worse and worse everyday. god i hope it's a quick and cheap fix.
anyone have any clues?

not quite sure how, but the problem is supposedly the wheel bearing again. that's the THIRD time i've had to deal with this. luckily this time, it's warrantied. (thank god). i need something else soon, i may try to get a 04 2.5 TS, or and outback. i would love to get a WRX, but it just won't fit into my budget. I'm really contemplating another type of car, not sure what though. subaru needs to upgrade their warranty, my friend just got a really nice, brand new hyundai elantra GT hatch, freakin 10 yr warranty. the ol' 3yr 36k just isn't enough anymore. sucks being practical.

I kind of feel your pain with the warranty, but it has been my observation on the experience with others that those with the 7-10 year warranties, really NEED them. Remember, you can get an extended warranty through the dealer or aftermarket too. I have heard that the dealer route is more expensive, but I was feeling vulnerable when I visited mine. For $19/month on my payment, I have a 5 year Gold Subaru warranty, plus some other crappy paint protection warranty. If you waffle at the warranty table like I did, they will lower the rate and throw in other stuff to get you to sign up. Aftermarket is cheaper though, so consider that with your new Scooby. Hyundai has teh suck and when/if you trade/sell it, you will get $6 for it. Check their resale, it's horrible...as in a Yugo has higher resale horrible.

very true Unabomber. VW has a nice warranty, something like 4yr/5k miles.
i looked into extending my warranty but it was like an extra $80 a month, but yet that was through Subaru. one thing i definitely need is more room, especially when i get a dog. if mileage wasn't such an issue, i would go the Lease route to help my budget. i can't remember the exact name of the lease, but basically, i'd still be able to do what i want to the car but i'd be limited to the amount of miles. then of course i have the same options at the end of the period, just like a lease. mileage limitation sucks, but soon i may not have to travel as much for work so.......just a thought. quentinberg007, my cars a coupe and yes i have the V6 wing. I sold my coupe wing on ebay a long time ago, right after i got the V6, sorry. thanks for the invite to the Mo-Town meet, i won't be able to make it though, i don't foresee me heading back that way for awhile. |

well, wheel bearings fixed and the noise is still there. must not be too bad if they took it for a drive and checked everything out. it just annoys the **** out of me.
i found out that if i would have payed $1200 before the 36k warranty ran out, i could have bumped it up to like 80k miles. D'oh the idea of a 2.5TS wagon sounds better, hell the 04 would be less a month then what i'm paying now. they are doing 4.9% apr. a WRX is just too much a month. |
