Default ticking/rattling noise.

My car is ticking/rattling under light throttle at 2000-3500 rpm near my engine. It sounds like its right under my engine and its a loud ticking towards the higher 3500 rpm range.. I did a search and most people with similar probs have upgrades and I'm stage 1 SF. Could it be a oil prob because I just got new oil from a1 4 days ago but I havnt drove it really except for today and I drove straight for 4-6 hours with very little rest. Should I try putting new oil in myself? My friend said last time they gave him 5w-20 instead of 5w-30.would that cause it? Thanks for the help!!!

I also have a ticking noise in the same rpm range. I did a compression check 130 across the board. I'm also vf39'd though.

I too have no idea what it is. Hopefully my tuner can figure it out. Dropped it off last night. Ill see what he has to say about it, and maybe shine some light into your problem.

Thanks sooo much. Me and my friend were driving all over having some fun in the snow and doing some shopping and I did one launch control and it was just just tick tick.

If it happened right after you did a launch, I would suggest a compression test ASAP.

I don't think a ticking rattle would be rod knock my buddy's car when it had a rod knock was so bad the car would not drive...
It was instant by the time it started knocking the motor was done

Or just could be the up pipe heat shield coming loose. Happened to me. The welds break and cause it to have a tick/rattle sound in the lower rpm range.

Being it back to them. Tell them it's ticking after they put the wrong oil in it, and demand fix the problem. ****, 5w-20...I run 5w-40 in mine. Synthetic. No issues.

Subaru might not warrenty it they can say it was user error for the wrong oil being put in so if that happens you will be rowing up crap creek without a paddle..

Make the company who did the oil change pay to have it fixed if they have techs stupid enough who does not know subarus should be 5-30 synthetic should be fired...

And that is all there is to it a 10 second google search could of told them that instead of guessing hell they could of asked you or whipped out the service manuel would of told them

...Or don't be a fraud and be honest with them. You mod your car, you know the risks. Chances are they'll suspect abuse anyways, since mid-life motor failures are most often caused by outside factors. (Poor maintenance, bad tune, abuse, etc...) If you are honest from the start they will likely treat you with more respect. Because I sure wouldn't respect myself if I tried to pull that crap. That's what the savings account is for... pay to play folks.

Not to mention most dealers know to check this forum.
