With the pathetic upgrades the specB offered, I hope they don't base their decision on it.

If they decide to offer a "real" car, they'd sell alot more.

SpecB ain't no reputation builder.

At $27K or $28K, the XT is already way overpriced. I can't imagine a Forester in the $30's. I don't care how fast it is, it's still a friggin Subaru Forester.

I don't know, the Forester has a nicer interior trim out than the WRX, so a few thousand over the wagon seems to be reasonable. Maybe it should only be $1000 over, but i wouldn't call that way over priced. If it is, then the WRX is way overpriced, too.

The new RAV4 and CX-7 are priced similarly, and both are larger, so you may have a point, though.

Sure, both Impreza and Forrester are overpriced when you compare to the Legacy pricing. This may change as the next gen. Impreza is rumored to be made in the USA at the Indiana plant.

I absolutely love my 02 Impreza WRX. I bought it June 2002 (it's almost paid off! yay!). However, there is no 'real' step-up car for me in the current subaru line. Yes the LGT/SpecB is a larger and more "grown up", but IMO it needs a real top-line trim level. SpecB has the 6spd , but power output is the same as all other turbo legacies and normal brakes.

Bring me a legacy sti with 300+hp, brembos all around and a 6spd (or some kind of dsg/smg-ish auto-manual) and you have a real car for people that bought imprezas when they were young and have "grown up" (married, kids, etc) and need something more substantial but still want the performance of their old cars. Sure we can go pick up an audi, mb, bmw that fits that bill, but you're talking big bucks there. Sell this legacy under $40k and SOA has another purchase out of me in a couple years, and I would imagine that would be the case for alot of us out there.

While at SEMA, the folks over at AutoWeek managed to dig up some info on future Subies for the US market. Apparently there are discussions currently taking place about offering STI versions of both the Legacy and Forester here. This news is bound to set Subiephiles into a feeding frenzy, as they have been asking for these cars ever since the WRX-STI first debuted.

"We are discussing it internally," confirmed Tomohiro I****obi, Subaru vice president of product planning, in an interview at SEMA. "We feel the market is ready."

Now if they would also offer a 3.6L turbo Tribeca STI as part of their '08 Tribeca makeover, the circle would be complete

STI Evolves
STI to expand across Subaru range. Will Evolution follow?

Our SEMA show coverage details the hardware on Subaru's Forester Sports 2.5 XT concept, but here's the extra bit of info: This might be a concept today, but before long you can expect this car and a Legacy, both wearing STI badges and fitted with all the hot STI hardware, in Subaru showrooms alongside the fan-favorite Impreza WRX STI.

Subaru rolled out the Forester Turbo first, and with the SEMA concept equipped with STI parts, the Japanese automaker is obviously testing whether the market can support a Forester STI.

"We are discussing it internally," confirmed Tomohiro I****obi, Subaru vice president of product planning, in an interview at SEMA. "We feel the market is ready."

As for the Legacy, Subaru already offers a limited-edition STI-tuned model for a substantial premium in Japan (more on that in a future issue) and could easily upgrade that program to full Legacy STI production.

"Everybody tells us about how they want it [a Legacy STI]," said I****obi. "It is on our wish list."

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi tips its performance hand by showing the super-tuned Evolander at SEMA. "It's Evo meets Outlander," said a company spokesman of the special concept ute. While the company says the vehicle would likely come to market as a Ralliart model, and that we shouldn't view Evolander as a possible expansion of the Evo brand, one can only wonder which brand carries more weight in the U.S. market. Put another way, if a lowly Lancer can evolve, why not an Eclipse or a Galant or an Outlander?
