Default 20G STi dyno

i put down 330awhp and 303awtq on a mustang dyno. the curve's are near perfect..I'm on 22psi ATM. Going to pick up a map sensor soon and see what this car is made of. There's definitely room left with this turbo. I'm loving the car how it sits right now.

basic power mods:
stock motor w/drop in cp pistons
perrin fmic
perrin 3" inlet
KsTech 73mm intake
Blouch 20G-XT 10cm
tgv deletes
740cc DW injectors
M@ tuned
other random little things

Seems kinda low? Is it a mild tune? What boost? Only wondering because my friend is going with a 20g.

Very nice Fxt. I wish Brian had told me you were bringing it. I'm bringing mine today. Totally stock, so this is a baseline. I haven't seen your car yet, if you see this one give a honk:

How many miles were on the motor when the pistons were changed? Did you do any other internal engine changes when the pistons were changed. Like the direction and potential results.

it was street tuned so there's no real way to tell for sure the afr's on spool up.

there was about 92k on the motor when the pistons went in. My builder (Tom Downes) made sure the cylinder walls were all in spec before dropping them in.

does seem low. @ 22psi i made 370/350 on a 2.0 with a fp20 td06 8cm. Also trapped 117 with it. This is not to talk crap at all. Just to show you, that you should have tons of head room. This was at the same boost levels.

and you have a 10cm????? and a 2.5?????
this is with my 2.0
when i had my hybrid motor in, it made closer to 400whp at 24psi

You can see the AFR on the chart....idk if you realized that

FYI: Most people that street tune a setup like this always use widebands.

I don't have a Wideband so he had no way of knowing the afr.

This forum calls every dyno a 'heart breaker' dyno. That doesnt even mean anything anymore. Comparing a 20gxt to an old school td06 20g is absolutely pointless because the compressor wheel is so different.

The power curve blows, point blank. It doesnt hit peak tq of 300lb/ft until 5200rpm then starts to fall right off.

No point in polishing the turd. The tune absolutely sucks. When the pistons went in, cams should have also (although not always financially feasible.)

Once the tune gets cleaned up and boost comes up, it should run great.

OP's car is also running a 10cm hotside. that throttle response must be turdy.

I was told the 10cm is no good spools way late and since your cold side is no bigger you still can't flow more air....which in turn means you gain no more power over the 8cm is all you do is increase your lag..that's just what I was told. To each there own.

Yeah. My 10cm 20gxt comes on much earlier.....at 21.5psi tapering to 18 by the 7k redline I still made 370tq 360whp on Akuma's mustang dyno and my timing at redline was still less than 18deg.

what is your throttle response like? are you happy with the 10cm? obviously has nice topend, but is it worth it for your application?

Im not going to lie, my response is a little blunted over a stock turbo. 2 reasons. 1, i run a long tube header (invidia el) so that accounts for some of it. The other part is the 10cm. At 3 grand you better hang on though.

What was interesting, however, is while boost comes on a little later, my tq curve followed the trajectory of my td05 20g w/ a 8cm hotside exactly. So I wasnt losing tq at any rpm over my previous set up, even though boost was coming in later.

I recently posted a trade for a smaller hotside to improve driving for DD duties, but looks like its not going to happen, but Im honestly not sad about it. My invida header was absolutely AWESOME on the stock turbo, but I dont think its the right choice for a 10cm. I expect my throttle response to get much crisper when i put stock manifolds back on, but Ill probably lose some mid range. I think with a short runner header like a tomei or a Killerb, you would get the best of both worlds.

The 10cm is, over all, awesome. I spend the majority of my time on the highway, so I want that punch. And while it does blunt response a little, you cant argue with the power. At only 17.5deg timing at redline and 18psi w. an a/f of 11:1, my legacy has absolutely run from 6.0 gto's with mods, and evo's running stock turbos w/ all bolt ons, cams, meth and 24psi on the highway. It flat out screams for what it is. Consider what would be possible if I actually let boost hold and ran more timing?

Here is what I would tell people: If you are going to run 22psi or more, 6.5k revs or more, and want to run a more aggressive timing curve, the 10cm is absolutely the way to go. You can run more timing, hold more boost up top, and extend the rev-range. If you want to keep it more on the conservative side, sub 22 psi etc, stick with the 8cm. The benefit of the 10cm is there, but you have to use it to get it. For as conservative as my tune is, the 8cm would have over all been the better choice.
