I seriously considered using the WRX. My concern was about excessive wear and tear on a brand new car that I drive every day. Not to mention I'm paranoid about warranty denials, someone told me that dealers will check local race results and deny based on that. Wrong on both counts?

Either way I'm not good enough to be competitive so it's just for fun and maybe a nice parkway cruiser that my wife might enjoy as well.

At one point (at least in the Midwest) Subaru gave out annual memberships to SCCA with the purchase of a new STi.

I think you'll be fine

Spotted a black '08(?) WRX at the light on Free Bridge tonight around 5:30. Couldn't see the driver, but he/she eventually turned down Meade Avenue. A waved as I drove by on the right.

Ummm, how does one tell if he's got a bad clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder? I noticed both Friday night and Tuesday morning that my clutch pedal doesn't feel right. It isn't disengaging the clutch until it's depressed quite a bit. Things get back to normal after a few shifts, tho. Maybe I should replace both...or maybe it's not the hydraulics...

Ah, gotcha. Autox is definitely more laid back since it's at much lower speeds and low risk, but that doesn't mean you can't get crazy and have a blast! I seriously love autox's, and feel sorry for anyone who isn't able to have fun at them. On track you need to remain calm and collected to go drive well and go fast, at autox you get to go crazy! Autox's are like rollercoaster rides for me. Short but such a rush!

Tracking a Subaru is a long and expensive road to head down. But I'm in too deep to give up now! That being said, it's me vs 5 Corvettes this weekend. Anyone interested in coming to watch me give them a driving lesson if it rains.

Mitsubishi would look at entry lists and void warranties, but Subaru never went that far. However if you have something come up, any performance parts will be blamed for causing the issue and most likely void your claim. Kyle didn't get his engine overhaul covered because Brown said his Accessport was the reason the #4 ringland cracked. Just pathetic, considering so many people have had that happen, myself included. I really wish Subaru had just done the right thing and covered anyone with that issue, no questions asked. There's an obvious design flaw.

April 30th is the rookie school and May 1st is the 3rd points event at Verona. If you're willing to drive a little, there's an event on April 3rd in Salem which some of us will be attending.

I tried checking it yesterday morning before going to work, but couldn't see well enough, and I was in a hurry to get to work. I'll check it today.

I like to hear this. I don't plan on doing any performance parts for a while and only really mild stuff. Maybe slightly bigger sways and endlinks and a few bushings. ECU tuning will be quite a few years down the road.

Thinking I may do one or two events in the wrx to see how much I enjoy it before making the call on a miata. Besides, gives me an opportunity to wear out the stock tires and pads so I can get something better on there.

Yeah I will be there. Last time I drove in the rain I almost rear ended a miata that had non functioning brake lights going into turn one...had to pass on the inside....a bit hairy....but I will just take it easy if it ends up raining this weekend. Also the M3 that we built at Amrit's is running this weekend. Some guy bought it from James and I think it will be in hpde1. Should be cool to finally see it on track even if it isn't from behind the wheel...

No, I sure haven't, but I did have the clutch replaced last December. I'm just worried that it's something more than a hydraulic issue. The feeling is hard to explain, but I have the normal free play in the clutch pedal, then for an inch or two more, it feels like the pedal isn't doing anything, even though there is more resistance in the pedal. Then, for the last part of pedal travel, it feels normal. As I said earlier, after I shift gears a few times, everything is fine. I doesn't do it all of the time either...it was fine this morning.

Mines not stock and really other than having no "balls" to it compared to my old wrx I love the thing to death for autox. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get in a hyperdrive but thats a big "if". You always welcome to come out and ride along with me at a event to see how a prepped one handles.....or ask justin how it is at a PCA event.

I'm gonna try to come to the April 30th event and see how I like it. My wife will be out of town which ups the odds of me making it. A miata will also depend heavily on how much I can get for the '82 300sd I have sitting at my dad's place.

That is cool with the split screen. You can really see how small differences add up by the end of the run.

Do NOT tempt me with a good time. I'll try and behave and let kiota have all the Miata fun. Hahaha, man, a project Miata....... hhmm....... my old man needs a project.

Once the Triumph sells (and I don't get laid off) this may have to happen.
