Smile boosting on an ej22 shortblock not a ej22t

Does anyone know if the ej22 has the same closed deck design as the ej22t? I constantly see whole longblocks go for like $300 and figure hell for another $700 I can get forged rods and pistons, and sleeve it while I'm at it. I don't imagine they would change it over the years right? Ej22t blocks are very hard to find with decent miles and are usually atleast $600 with tons of miles.
Let me know,
Michael G

They are open deck. But if you want one I have a complete ej22 engine I'll sell for $175+shipping. It's from a 93 Legacy, has about 125k on it and had 165 compression on all four cylinders at AZ altitude. It's partially dissasembled right now.

you are better off finding a entire legacy ss from someone who doesn't know what they have and just parting it out. The engines typically go for upwards for $900 and you can get sti blocks for that. A rusty ss is going to be way less than that, especially if you score one with a blown autobox, probably get paid to take it away. But don't tell them what they have, poker face!

I hope he's figured this out since it was posted 10 years ago . These days it almost seems easier to find an older, wrecked Legacy GT and pulling the block out of it.
