Anyone know any GOOD Subaru shops in the Raleigh/Garner area?
I would like to ask all the Raleigh/Garner area Subie owners what shops they have had good experience with. I do all my basic maintenence at home but I want a good shop that I can go to for things that I either cant or dont want to do at my house. I looked in the phone book and I found a few places that had Subaru listed in their adds. Could anyone offer an opinion on the following:
Johnson & Johnson Import Specialist on Mechanical Blvd, Garner. Happy Jap's on Johnson St. Cary WASP Automotive on Meadow St. RTP I want to see if anyone has anything good or bad about these places before I need to take my car in for something. Thanks, Tony

I know they overcharge, but Quincey at Southern States is hard to beat as far as a mechanic. When I went in for some warranty work on my car the guy was meticulous. Torqued everything and even torqued my lugnuts by hand.

a lot of the stuff can be done by your fellow scooby enthusiasts for orders of magnitude less $$.
Fuel filters, replacing turbos, suspension, etc.... What do you need done? |

I have a few issues with SS because I didnt buy my car there. We bought my wife's VW there and I notice a different level of service when I take her car there vs when I take my car there. I would prefer to give my business to a good reputable non-dealer shop that knows its stuff.
nhluhr- Thanks for the offer. Right now I dont have anything major to do to her except change the fuel filter, plugs, and SP wires when I get around to it. I may take you guys up on the help offer if I need an extra hand. I can lend a hand sometimes also. So I guess that nobody has ever been to any of the shops that I mentioned in my first post?? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Tony |

ok well if you do end up wanting a hand, fuel filter, plugs, and wires are all things we can accomplish quickly and painlessly.
We are actually having an "installfest" tomorrow at trhoppe's house south of Raleigh. If you happent to already have the parts or can get them in time, we would be pleased to see you there and get your stuff done for you. Thanks Yancy,
It is nice to know that there may be some decent competition for SS as far as working on my Suby when I run out of ability or get something to difficult or time important for the group here on NASIOC to handle. Any one else know about any of these shops? Tony |

I got a timing belt done at happy japs on my 93 NT eclipse about 5 years ago before I was into cars. They did a decent job on it, but the only thing I didnt like was the fact that they used a generic belt rather then a OEM belt. Guess if you ask them to use a OEM belt it would all be OK.
