Default who is to blame for my car burning.

its been about 6 months now that i have my scubby and just today my whole car system bursted into flames. my question is the remote wire and power wire bursted into flames and burned my fuse box and my entire amp install kit. k-autosounds installed my amp and subs when i first got my scubby and now my harness under the dash is screwed. its burned bad , theres about 5 burned fuses, burned fog light harness, there is a bad short i beleive because my blinkers dont work, check light is on and the fuses wont stay good. should i contact my insurance company , or the cops and make a report, the installer, who should i blame for this or my main ? is who is to blame and can my insurance cover the damage.

WTH? Are you talking about a can audio system? Why was it ever tapped into your fuse box? Amp power cable is suppose to be run directly from the battery to avoid pulling too much power through the teeny-tiny little stock wiring.

it sounds like the install is to blame if it was cause by your am setup...and you havent done anything to it since then.

yes its the car audio, i thought an amp needed two power wires a big one at the battery and another power wire to turn the amp on when my car turned on? the wires r crisp burned ,from the battery to the trunk, carpet and all. i was told that they might of taped into the fuse box or fog light , and that it shorted out.

It's only 1 wire to the battery, the one that turns on the amp is connected through the stereo, it's the remote wire I believe. It turns on the amp when the stereo is powered on. Whoever did your install doesn't deserve to be in business.

It sounds like the installer may have wired the remote turn on lead to the fuse box (probably to a ignition on fuse) and mayhave caused the fire. A lawyer may be more in order than insurance.

Don't call a cop. It is a civil matter and a cop can't do anything until a law is broken. If you tear the installer a new one, THEN the cops can be involved.

Go to the stereo shop, show them the issue and give them the chance to make it right if they were at fault.

Patience at first is always better than yelling. Everyone gets defensive if they are confronted. Be professional, it works better.

QFT.

also, if the stereo shop doesn't accept responsibility, take it to a real shop, have them investigate, bring the information to the installer, if they still deny, then get yer lawyer.

in the meantime, you really shouldn't do anything to your car and whoever is at fault will have to pay for all that shizzle.

you may want to consult your lawyer right away to find out if it is going to be worth it to pursue anything.

otherwise, you'll probably have to get your insurance to cover it. and yeah, you will be considered at fault and have to pay full deductible.

for speed of getting it fixed, insurance will be the quickest outlet...

Not sure if your insurance company is going to do anything for you. This is no different than if your engine blows up, it's a problem with the car, not an accident you were involved in.

I have a co-worker who had his dash catch on fire and he quickly put it out. He called his insurance and they said, 'Sorry, we could do something if the car burnt to the ground but otherwise there's nothing we can do for you.' His car wasn't modified in any way either.

insurance depends on your coverage. if you have comprehensive, I'd call the insurance company first. they'll then handle dealing with the audio shop. If not, you're on your own. also keep in mind that going into the shop mad is unlikely to improve the situation. Go calmly, ask for the manager and see if he has insurance coverage. If you do it right, they'll work with you to file with their carrier.

Yup... good idea...

And for the love of God, be calm and don't lose your cool... they will try to provoke you into doing something to get the cops called out if they really are shady.

And... there is always the chance you can use the news outlets to help you with their "Consumer defense" programs... but do that after you talk with the shop.
