If there's two things I wish my car had (US Model), it's the Mirror Turn Signals and the center LCD display like the Forester has. Oh, and maybe steal the LED Tail Lights from the new 2014 Hybrid XV Crosstrek.

Anyone know if a US imp can be fitted with CDN parts? Turns and hids would be nice on my sport limited.

I would suspect so.

Except your car might start saying, "Eh" and "Take off, ya hoser". Eh?

No surprise on the amount of damage, looks pretty typical for clipping a deer. Any time airbags pop, the cost isn't cheap. Not so much the bags themselves, but the sensors, control module, etc. behind the system that adds up.

As others have noted, after seeing the damage in this accident, and the high speed rear-end accident that were recently posted, the car appears to perform well in keeping the passenger compartment intact. Repair cost may be high, but you can't replace life or limb at any cost. Hopefully most of us never have to find out how safe the car is first-hand.

Good luck with the repairs.

I'm more practical. I'd much rather they put in proper needle gauges for fuel level and temperature (swap out that P.O.S. Eco-gauge, even). The reflectors in the headlights and tail lights are visible enough from the side that the mirror turn signal would be nice to have, but not a priority for me. The LCD display would be informational - but perhaps too much so (so much that it would probably drive me to distraction).

Actually, **** that. Just give me a BRZ and we'll call it even.

If you want to see proof of this in the extreme, do a YouTube search on "subaru impreza crash test". You'll find some official videos of when Subaru's structural engineer was on-hand to witness crash testing, and he explains what he looks for in a successful crash test, and how the Impreza is designed to be so safe.

I'd provide the direct links, but I'm at work now and my company's firewall blocks YouTube. You'll find it if you look. It's impressive stuff.

Yeah, like switching from an Impreza to a BRZ would be a "practical" choice.

Fun, yes. Practical, no.

On my first stop I saw a BRZ 6 feet away from the sales guy I was talking to. Got in it, my 6'5" fit comfortably, said I want one then found out it was 2wd with no AWD. Wife was relieved.
I too would give up that center LCD display in a hearbeat for gas, oil, volt and temp gauges.
After driving this Impreza for 6 months I got in my 98 Cherokee this past weekend to flush the cooling system, oil change and it felt cramped, I put over 360,000 mi on that jeep.

I'm willing to sacrifice a little practicality for boatloads of fun.

I hear you. I suspect I'll be in the same place once I pay off the mortgage and the kids' college in a few years. But I might go with a WRX before a BRZ, to get usable back seats and AWD.

The thing I like most about that screen that the Forester and international models of the Impreza have is that it displays a boost gauge on the XT. Essentially, if I could take the Forester XT's engine with the LCD display... some kind of Impreza mixed with the Forester XT, essentially... that'd just be a bucket of fun.

And since the WRX is going Sedan only... unless they eventually release a 5-Door version later (like with the '08 STi only being released in a 5-Door and eventually getting a sedan in 2011), I'll prioritize functionality first. I need a hatch for all the stuff I put in the back. Loading and unloading is much easier.

Default Crosstek Bumper cover for standard Impreza

has anyone bought the Crosstek bumper cover (rather than the clear applique which we we have on our accessory list) and installed it on their car? i assume it fits perfectly?

just wanted to check before spending the money...

I'm actually thinking the same (as rationale for getting a WRX, if they follow through with a CVT model). It's nice to have functional rear passenger seats, and the AWD (as it was for me with this car) will still be a bonus.

...not to mention that I still might not fit in the BRZ, if they've got the same interior dimensions as the FR-S. My head was touching the roof of the FR-S at the lowest seat setting; to make it not touch would require the steering wheel to be slightly out of reach or my legs cramped under the steering column.

Oh well, we'll see. For now, I'm content with my Impreza.

I would like to know this too. I pick up my new Impreza Sport Premium hatch this weekend and would like to get this as I am sure I that part of the bumper will get some abuse.

I am coming over to the Impreza from a 06 Xterra and I could not be more excited. I just wish I was driving it now and that I wouldnt have to put any more fuel in my Xterra.

Check this thread, the XV cover fits about 95%. There are newer options (comparable with the XV one) that fit 100% and are cheaper.

How did they do a DIY oil change for $10? I do my own oil changes, and can't see how they could acquire the necessary oil and filter, even at discount prices, for less than $30.

"Our long-term 2012 Subaru Impreza arrived with an MSRP of $24,645. At the end of its test the odometer read 18,674 and Edmunds' TMV® Calculator valued it at $20,730 based on a private-party sale. This equated to a remarkably low 16 percent depreciation. For comparison, our similarly equipped 2012 Mazda 3 depreciated 26 percent after 20,080 miles of service."

It surprised me that the Mazda3 depreciates so much more quickly than the Impreza. I would expect a Mazda to hold its value similarly to a Subaru.

Not specific to our Imprezas, I thought this historical article about Subaru was very interesting:

Ya I questioned Edmunds testing from start to end. They complained about performance, as I somewhat agree. You have to drive the CVT differently than a normal tranny. Maybe the two in my family are just different, but very light throttle yields the quickest acceleration and even tho the RPM'S are higher, the best milage. Its true that the more throttle you give it, the more let down you'll end up. They claimed poor milage on test drives, then go on to describe hilly windy roads, sitting in hours of traffic, etc. if your going to claim hwy mpg, claim it at speed limits on avg highways. Not loaded with supplies and sitting in traffic and construction for hours. That may be their real world, but its not mine. I know its not possible or plausible but I feel that anyone who makes large negative claims about something, going beyond the normal bit** session, should be required to do or provide something to an equal ( in relative ratio) to the same amount of people and if they fare better then they can complain on large scale. It's been accurately stated in the past that you could give out $100 free to a million people and you will have 5-10% with complaints about it. Most probably because its not enough, but others will hold you liable because they did something irresponsible with it and since its now uncool to have personal responsibility, it'll be as a result of what "you" did.

Sorry about the hijacked rant, it floated a little off topic. I just needed to let that out.

Great article BTW, many thanks for posting it!!!

I've said this since the new '14 Forester has been out - the Impreza should have the 2.5 as well, or at least an option of it (Impreza GT anyone?). People are able to exceed the EPA in the 2.5, and having that in the Impreza would offer more power while barely reducing MPG

I don't think they did considering the article you quote states them paying over $7 for the filter! I don't even see where you see the $10 comment.

Yes they are there. The car will only shift up or down when the appropriate arrow is lit.

thanks...

bummer it's not a "perfect fit." i guess Subaru made the bumper slightly different or maybe the tolerances on the cover aren't all that fantastic.
