The necessity of a splitter has NOTHING to do with intercooler size! For any intercooler to work properly you need to force air through it, which is why the WRX comes WITH a splitter.

For ANY TMIC to properly be used, you NEED a splitter. Otherwise you're just sucking all that air around the engine and the TMIC barely sees any of it. Do yourself a favor and just buy the STI splitter if you get the TMIC lol

I'm late to the party but have the setup you seem to be looking for... - VF48 (bolts up just the same as a VF39 & VF43) - STI TMIC & STI splitter (both from an '07 STI) - SPT intake (not a necessity) - Perrin turbo inlet (*read note below) - Walbro 255 fuel pump - Stock injectors (*read note below) - COBB 3" catted TBE - Grimmspeed 3 Port EBCS When I was looking to do this upgrade I looked here then contacted 2 local reputable tuners. The above setup was the general consensus to make the upgrade work properly. If you have the stock intake on the car, keep it. My tuner liked the SPT intake but said he could have achieved the same numbers with the stock intake as well. I already had the SPT intake installed so I just stuck with it. * When installing the VF48 we discovered that my stock turbo inlet had a couple of small tears near where it connects to the turbo. So I installed a new Perrin one in its place. I've read that the stock inlet has a tendency to tear/rip like mine did on the '06-'07 models. Because of this I recommend planning ahead and just replacing/upgrading the inlet when you upgrade the turbo. * The stock injectors should be plenty adequate for the VF39/VF43/VF48 with 91-94 octane fuel. My tuner recommended that I stick with the stock injectors since I wasn't planning on going e85. with the tune, at 19psi, I believe my maximum duty cycle on the injectors is around 85% so there is plenty of headroom. (Note that if you plan on going with e85 you will want to upgrade the injectors.) Last edited by sc00ter; 11-13-2012 at 12:57 AM. |

my opinion. Headers, up pipe (if 07 wrx is catted), turbo inlet, sti splitter, ebcs, 255 fuel pump, i say go bigger on the turbo by just a tad like a Big 16g, better then VF. you will be boooostin. Your tranny could handle more then 300, avoid launching and stick with the stock clutch and you'll be golden.

Definitely a great point about the tranny and the clutch. The stock 5 speed can handle 300whp+ (mine has been going strong for a while now). Just avoid launching it and keep the stock clutch so you can be sure it's the weakest link in the drivetrain. My stock clutch has been going strong on this setup for almost a year now with absolutely no issues. |

Since your improving the power on your car, my suggestion is to change the OE engine oil pick up tube to a beefier after-market one (look up killer b oil pick up), if you have not already.
There has been instance where the welds on the pick-up tube would crack on the MY06-07 and starve the engine of oil. |

^^ Throw an upgraded EBCS onto that list as well. I edited my earlier post to include it because I forgot to list it with my mods. I went with the Grimmspeed 3-Port EBCS and it's been flawless.
I replied to your PM as well. |

If you know of a body shop that works on a lot of STI's, you could probably pick up a STI splitter for well under $100. I don't remember exactly what I paid for mine, it was so long ago, but it was somewhere around $25-40. I had to trim it a little to fit under the smaller scoop.

Yes, the WRX has a metal part that goes between the scoop and the intercooler. However, it doesn't have the same horizontal plane that cuts across the middle of the scoop to force air to the front of the IC. So it's not really "splitting" the air. That's what I meant. But yes, the WRX has ducting and a boot to channel the air.

OP, why ask people on here when you are ALREADY working with your tuner.
Stop asking people here ASK YOUR TUNER. Looks like you already are. Listen to your tuner, ask him all these questions instead. You will get a lot of misinformation mixed with good information on here. Your tuner can set you straight. End thread. PS. Update your profile as it states you have an 02 WRX . I assume you have an 07 WRX? Last edited by Freep; 11-14-2012 at 02:41 PM. |

I asked here first so I had a background as to what things I needed when I talked to my tuner so I wasn't talking and not understanding what what was. This also will help other people who might have to same question/s and clear up info other people may have mistaken |

Why do you think you need a fuel pump? It can be added to the list of items not needed.

STI's and WRX's use the same fuel pump. So why would you need one? Answer is, you don't.

It's one if those precautionary things just in case, it couldn't hurt and only costs $80-$100 so might as well.
