Default Ok...what is a good, cheap 2.25" exhaust for a 2.2L OBS?

Wanted to get some better exhaust flow. Was thinking new catpipe and axelback...is the OBX one any good? I'm not seeing any pipe diameter statements in any of the ebay auctions

I don't want to spend a lot, and I dont expect monumental gains. Just wanted to help the motor breathe easier

PS yes I did a search but didnt find anything that definitive.

The OBX is aparently 2.5" (RalliTek sells the same exhaust under their name and they say it's 2.5"). You could always go with a custom exhaust from a muffler shop, then you could pick your muffler and get it much cheaper than buying a premade exhaust. Thats what I did and I love mine.

Any muffler shop can bend you a 2.25" mid pipe for cheap. Throw on a good muffler like a Borla or Magnaflow and you're all set to go.

headers for the 2.2L are slightly harder to come by because the 2.2l heads are single port.

however, that means it would be super simple to have one fabricated- you could probably get a good machine shop to weld you together something custom for just a little bit more than the catback.

I will also +1 the mufflershop and aftermarket muffler 2.25" custom midpipe idea, i got an STI exhaust(the guy who sold it to me cleaned me out, charged me 100 more than i've seen some go for) and am happy with the results.

i have a wrx mid coming and in 2 days ill know if im getting an STi muffler or a stock RS muffler. I might "delete" a cat while im in there messing around (I only have 3...) but I think I might find someone who could do a custom header later on, but I DONT want to go EL on it!!

as for headers, they're cobb(ceramic coated EL), TWE(EL stainless) and the ebay borla knockoff.

but i thought this thread was about 2.2l?

I was in your shoes once and went with a Magnaflow 14815 and 2.25" custom fabbed piping from a local exhaust shop. The last bend where the axle back portion went into the center of the muffler (not offset) was crushed too much for my liking. If at all possible, try to find a shop with a mandrel bender instead of crush bender. Then it got louder and louder until it wore on my nerves and I replaced it with my stock cat-back. I now have my torque back, for whatever reason, and this is only confirmed on the butt dyno. Just my $0.02.

Not all the 2.2L are single port. Some are dual and some are single. I had a 96 2.2L and it had dual port heads, and the 2.5 header worked great.

As far as an exhaust, I have a Stromung single-tip, all stainless steel axle-back muffler that I had on my 96. Awesome sound and it is 2.25 piping. It is in great condition and I have been wanting to sell it. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks
