Subaru Stars The one that got away...

I don't feel like telling you guys the whole story right now. But for quite a while I have been trying to finalize the purchase on a rally car from the Midwest USA. Recently the initial purchase contract expired and the car was again open for anyone to buy. This weekend is Pikes Peak Hillclimb, and the car I was hoping to get is now out doing what it was built to do. I thought I would share some pictures with you guys since the purchase has been a burden I have been carrying alone for the last few months.

I am dead serious about motorsports, and anyone else who is interested in pursuing racing should contact me or take down my name because we are either with eachother or against eachother. After trying so hard and still losing this opportunity... I am only more determined to pursue my plans with these cars. I will NEVER stop chasing my dreams, and I encourage you all to do the same.

P.S. Sorry I have kept this to myself, but for the car owner/builder's sake I decided to not mention it to anyone until after I owned it or lost the chance to own it.

So the point of this thread is to show people pictures of a stock appearance rally car that you didn't actually buy, and then throw down a challenge to everyone else who actually drives a rally car because you are "100% dead serious about motorsports" and so if they don't support you then you are against them?

On my first event, the codriver from a much more successful car from the same class volunteered to spend 2 hours in his hotel room giving my codriver and I tips for recce. During the same event, mechanics from a national championship winning team (not RR) came over to offer help during service, just in case we needed it. Prorally is probably the most community-oriented motorsport you can get involved in...sounds like you are really going to fit in.

Good point, Rally drivers (and I think many motorsports for that matter) will slow or end their race to aid another driver in peril. Obviously if a driver is in grave danger I think anyone (I hope) would stop their race to help. Competitiveness is great and is what keeps us progressing (although sometimes regressing) as humans, but you also have to have human spirit and care for your fellow man whether it is to save another person in danger or help them to be even more competitive with you. For this reason I respect Rally in motorsports and Rugby as a team sport as they are both sports where you try to beat your opponent and then go have a beer together afterwards WHATEVER the result.

The pictured car above looks to be a 2004 STI.

ValleyRalley already owns an 04? I guess saving money by going after a fully built one, but still I'd rather modify the one I know and own.

it costs substantially more money to build your own car than buy a pre-built car. there is something to be said about knowing all the little details about a car you built yourself. My friend rally prepped a GC that was pruchased for 4k. Total all said and done after his first event including all the safety gear with tires and all that jazz was 25k including the original purchase price of the car. Now he did not really cheap out on anything (DMS, compomotive wheels, yoko tires... all new) but it's still EXTREMELY expencive to prep your own car.

Most rally prepped cars sell for slightly more than just buying a completely stock vehicle.

The point of this thread is that at 1 am while waiting for the spanish grand prix to come on, I looked up pikes peak hillclimb. By coincidence, I found a link to Nasioc Motorsports where someone posted pictures of a car I owned a large percentage of within the week; and it was charging up pikes peak on the practice day. I unfortunately don't have very many people who I can share my passion for Subaru's and rally with, so I posted my story up here. Like I said in the o.p. I have kept this whole deal almost exclusively to myself. Pretty much to sidestep any negative feedback that is bound to come from the internet.

If you had any clue about how far from stock that car is you would laugh at that comment. I don't think I threw down any challenges just now, certainly I never mentioned any other 'actual' rally racers. I apologize if I came off the wrong way to you when trying to convey my enthusiasm for what I am working towards. I never meant to imply that I wanted to throw anyone under the bus or crush their dreams.

I agree with your outlooks on the comraderie of rally and this is something I hope to contribute towards. I have volunteered to help a bunch of the local rally teams but have never been taken up on my offer. I think you and I could relate more than you are allowing. Motorsports literally saved my life, and consequently I am working hard every day to share this with other people like me that could get into trouble easily. I live in the Fraser Valley and some of the roads I used to drive on have been body dump sites from the problems we have around here.

If I have to take out a few people racing for themselves to accomplish my goals, I will. There are lots of people who are against me or want to see me fail, and you can either add yourself to the list or work together with me to promote ourselves and our area's Racing. I mean this seriously, PM me if you want to work together to promote racing in our area. That means both if you need help, or if you can help in some way. I can't divulge much of my plans due to potential conflicts with Nasioc rules but in time I hope you guys will understand that there is some meaning behind me saying things like I'm 'dead serious' about motorsports... and yes I will tone it down a little... PG-13 from now on.

man, you're enthusiasm is great...but nobody is against you!

Fact is the post is kinda outta left field, think of it from other people's perspectives.

I've met a lot of good people on here (and some douchebags too....mostly brent, because he always bails on me)...always willing to lend a hand, or hang out and shoot the ****, whatever.....if you need help with something specific then just ask, im sure lots of people here would be willing to help....but just proclaiming how deadly serious you are and how we should contact you if we are too just makes no sense....like what are you looking for? someone to co-own? co-driver? mechanic? pizza boy?...then the with you or against you comment...i dunnno man....

like i said, everyone here is pretty much for eachother, i'd help anyone on here if they needed a hand with their car and i was capable of helping them out (except for tora, cause he's mean to me on the interwebs )...so if you need some help tell us what you're lookin for....

but all **** aside...sucks the deal on the car fell through....there'll be another one, just keep your eyes pealed...and hell i'll keep mine open too for ya

I guess I meant the highest echelon of each type of racing. I just like ripping it and hammering on the brakes at the last moment, win or lose.

When I started driving the Subaru GD Chassis, my Hero Colin McRae was still alive. Within a year we lost him, and it cut me deep. I became more serious about motorsports when I realized how much it meant to me, right around that time. If there is a chance I can continue to inspire my friends and family with my goals and accomplishments I will feel like this pursuit of speed is all worthwhile. Colin McRae's dream was to help out his local area racing scene, and that is another driving force behind my own beliefs on the subject of supporting our area.

Yeah for sure. I rent a shop where I can do lots of servicing and prep. I can't weld on the property though, or it would require tons of inspections of the building (which I only rent, not own) I have talked to lots of motorsports shops and 'race car builders' but no-one has ever offered me a quote on a cage that made me reach for my wallet. I stripped my 04 STi to nothing and started talking to shops, trying to prove my commitment to the process of caging the car. No discounts or competitive pricing offered.

I have run at mission raceway all out in my STi. Since owning this car, no hand or machine outside of my own has touched it. I set my own alignments with string and calipers, and diagnose, order and install all components. I truly appreciate the value of doing it for yourself, and in the future I plan to build my STi up for either time attack or rally (based on budget)

On that note, the car I was trying to buy was built by the owner/driver and his co-driver who also run the shop that the car was built for/in. They sat together and went over everything that they deemed necessary as a team for safety and performance. I haven't heard of anyone else doing this, and it really showed in the finished product.

Thanks Jeff, I hope the good outweighs the bad in my other posts. I know we're all on the same team here. For what it's worth, I have had your sign in name written down for a while on a list of people who I need to contact to learn more about. This is because it is very obvious to me how supportive and positive of an influence you are locally, I regret not having the time to formally introduce myself to you before now.

I want to point out when I am talking about ' people who are against me' etc., I am not referring to anyone in particular. Certainly no-one from this club. I am kind of referencing the fact that there HAS to be opposition in order to even have a race! I can understand why many people don't really understand my outlook on motorsports, and I'll try to keep that in mind in the future.

whats the hold up? Keeping in mind, its a nasa car that transfered to RA. I know there are some safety differences between nasa, RA and CARS. Might need some extra work before you can race it here...?

that car would be VERY expensive to build... if it is as well prepped as the ad says it is, it is a fair price. But getting it legal here in canada will require some hoop jumping.
