The stress is not because of the speed, but the bumps. You were just spinning the tires really fast at the smooth track. Now you are going to be pushing the rubber in at any bump.

I would get another set if were you (and had funds) if the tire blows and it is loaded (outside tire on a turn) you might damage the car a bit.

I would at least put it on the back wheels so it does not have to deal with braking or the weight of the engine.

Oh! And do not worry about tech. Mike does that. Just give him $20 or tell him that you will call magical cones on his brother on Sunday.

In other words, playing w/ a damaged rubber is just asking for trouble.

Oakland Acres? I actually named it that. Dave Promfret moved. I think Aro was an accomplished racer that McGeorge Toyota sponsored to rallyx. Good times.

OMG! How many BMWs are we going to have this weekend?

Are they free on craigslist or what?

I might run MR just to run with a bigger group.

when did he rally circus move to oa? I started at OA in '03. dave and wife moved apart and placed OA up for sale. Dave moved out to north dakota or someplace like that and came back for RX events. Writing was on the wall a matter of time before the place sold. We looked for other venues and SP popped up.

What a luxury we have 3 tracks to rotate thru.

Nick + Bobby 528e
Me 318i
Stuart 318is
Pat + Jason 325e (but probably only the T&T)
Scott + his usual 3 325e
Jesse 325i

And one other guy says he might sign up

And you'd be surprised how cheap running e30s can be found on CL. I know that at least 3 of them that will be there (and probably 4) were bought for $700-$1000. There's a running ETA in Manassas on CL now for $700. Plus such a huge community for cheap used and new parts and easy to work on.

Do it....Not like I'm catching Shawn anyhow, so I'm certainly not worried about anyone visiting the class and beating me! My goal is just to beat the BMWs this week

Damn, and now 2 different MR2's (3 drivers), 2 differet RX's (3 drivers). Big MR turnout. Gonna be entertaining if the course is wet/slippery

Are all those BMWs supposed to drive on MR? Do you know why by any chance? I am curious to know if it is due to mods, or just back seat removal :P

528e is a former attempt at a LeMons car, so it has no carpet, half the dash missing, and a full cage. The car itself is mostly stock and running on all-seasons I think. They really had no choice since it was gutted when they got it.

Mine is mostly stock, stock engine, only "performance" mods are a 325i rear suspension/brake swap (hardly a performance mod since all other e30s have discs back there except my early 318) and a gutted cat (since it disintegrated), and old rally tires. No carpet, no backseat. The lack of carpet put me in MR from the start, so I just do whatever I want to it. It's getting an M42 swap this winter. So once that is done it will basically be a stock "newer" 318i, lol.... Any weight reduction I've done (broken AC delete, carpet delete, etc) is pretty much offset by the rollbar weight.

Stuart's 318is is almost completely stock with snow tires, but I think he ripped out the carpet....so MR again. Or maybe he still has carpet so he's PR. That car has run in both classes this year.

Jason and Pat's car is stock with snow tires....hell it even has an open diff for the moment. MR because no carpet...

Scott's car runs in SR (2 drivers) and PR (2 drivers). IT's stock with snow tires, and significant weight reduction (e.g. lots of rusted-out areas!!!). Runs full interior.

Jesse is a newbie but from what I've seen his is just a stock daily-driver type with some old snow tires.

In short, none of these cars are truly "modified" to any significant performance extent. Nor, for that matter, is Shawn's RX-7. I think it's stock too with just rally tires and some carpet missing. Not sure about the MR2's....the red one is a Camry V6 swapped but wasn't that fast last time out IIRC. No idea about the white one.

yeah, long-winded answer. It's a boring tuesday night

Depends on where your 2nd gear tops out. In a mostly stock RX-7 (second gen N/A) My top speed is normally mid 40s to low to mid 50s.

Hey Shawn - are you swapping on those Yokos I picked up for you since your tires looked pretty toasted...or did you get some new ones?

Will be curious to see what your thoughts are on these vs. what you were running before are in terms of traction after this weekend, since I have nothing to compare them to personally.

I think at the last event I was around 28 front and 26 rear on the main course but I'll have to look in my notebook if my daughter hasn't used it for coloring paper.......I had them up a bit from that on the barn course and maybe a bit down on the gravel course. IDK, I'm still trying to figure out the best pressures. If we're soft this weekend I may drop down even lower...

I was running higher earlier in the season but having traction issues in the back, which is saying a lot for a 100hp car. You have more power and are a bit heavier than I am though. What were you running with the old ones?

I was running somewhere around the 29-30 range to start and had not changed from there. I was a bit worried about running low pressures since I had some issues late last year with low pressures and debeading on the other rally tires. But looking at the wear on the used up ones now they may have been overinflated causing them to wear out that section faster.

We try to run 27 HOT at stage rally. e30s and the RX-7 should weigh about the same as a GC, right?
