Question about swap...

i'm driving a 03 2.5 rs and planning to upgrade its performance...anyone has any suggestions of what to do first?i'm also planning to get a turbo too...but was really confused about the intercooler, up pipe, down pipe thingy~~ are they neccessary for adding a turbo or what?

I started a thread on this in the Normally aspirated section...it turned out rather well if I do say so myself (non-turboing upgrades to an 02 RS).

I would avoid getting a turbo though...if you've got the money for one, just sell the rs and get a WRX...a turboed rs will be faster than a WRX, but it will cost a heck of a lot more, and be prone to exploding

Check the aftermarket forced induction section (I believe) for a whack of useful turbo info if you're really interesed.

non-turbo upgrade ideas:

-Brullen headerback
-Cobb CAI
-lightweight flywheel
-lightweight pulleys (not underdriven)
-rear swaybar
-new tires

Fix the nut behind the wheel first.

Learn how to drive. Take a defensive driving course. Take a performance driving course. Take an auto-x course. Read books about driving.

Before you spend one cent on your car, spend it on educating yourself. This mod will last you a lifetime, and is transferable from vehicle to vehicle.

Putting in a turbo will for sure void your young car's warranty. But I'm sure u knew that already.

not to discourage you concerning seeing your car go really really fast, but to be realistic your subaru ain't no civic - you'll find that it'll cost WAY more than you expect for a turbo. pretty much, if you're going the turbo route - you should've bought yourself a wrx. lots of guys have done it but it's not cheap. our engines are prepped for high compression so unless u intend your car to light up bright but fast, i suggest looking into changing pistons, block, etc first. then again if you've got the cash, then go for it - cause in the end n/a modding will surely not give you the oomph turbo will, though it'll be something u can do gradually and doesn't require you to dump a whole load of cash at one time to see it run. don't forget to use the search function!

those components are necessary for a turbo charged car..

u can't just slap a turbo on the car and think it will work just like that..

read more about turbo first..

good luck.

Yes, it is an exhaust. It starts at your header and goes all the way to the back (including the muffler).

It would be wise for you to peruse through the many FAQ's in the technical sections. You'll learn lots from the information there, and won't annoy the people here with endless questions that have been answered more than enough times.
