Street racers force driver over the edge
Man survives 100-foot fall
By Wes Woods II, Staff Writer
Article Launched: 05/08/2007 12:00:17 AM PDT

A motorist walked away from his mangled vehicle on Monday after crashing on Mt. Baldy Road and tumbling into the canyon below. The driver then climbed back up to the road after the accident and complained of neck and back pain. (Walter Richard Weis/Staff Photographer)
MT. BALDY VILLAGE - A La Verne man survived a rocky trip in his car down a 100-foot slope after a street racer forced him over the side of Mount Baldy Road on Monday.

California Highway Patrol Officer Damian Livingston said Monday evening the 46-year-old from La Verne was heading north on Mt. Baldy Road about 3 p.m. when two cars approached him near the first tunnel south of the village.

"One of the cars was in his lane going the wrong direction," Livingston said.

The driver veered far to the right but the car in his lane eventually pushed him over the side, Livingston said.

The two racers then left the area, and the incident is considered a hit-and-run, Livingston said.

He did not know the extent of the man's injuries other than he has pain in his neck and back.

U.S. Forest Service firefighter Dave Whalen said a bystander called in the crash, and firefighters from the nearby San Antonio Heights station responded. They found the driver along the road after scrambling up the slope.

"He was sitting on the bank when we arrived," Whalen said, who declined to release the man's name.

Livingston said the man was inside his car down the slope for 15 minutes.

"When no one came to help him, he worked his way up to side of the cliff before people came," Livingston said.

One person stopped to help the man while another passer-by continued to the nearby Department of Forestry station and told them about the incident.

It was unclear if the man was wearing his seat belt but both airbags deployed, Livingston said.

The man was later taken to Doctors Hospital Medical Center of Montclair, Whalen said.

The front windshield of the driver's Nissan was heavily damaged in the incident. A window in its back-seat passenger side also appeared to be broken out.

A towing company was scheduled to recover the car, fire officials said.

Anyone with information on the crash should call the Baldwin Park California Highway Patrol office at (626) 338-1164.

Staff writer Wes Woods II can be reached by e-mail at [email protected], or by phone at (909) 483-9378.

His main point was that he was getting laid. nothing else before that applies.

....especially considering the topic of thread.

With all of the track, auto-x and sanctioned race events that are readily accessible, there is no need to do this crap on public roads.

+1 During daylight hours too... AND ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD?

Common dumbasses, I mean I understand sprited driving, but the second you go in the wrong lane on public highways and danger someones life/property to try and be ub3rr l33t str33t r4z0rs you should loose your license and die in a car fire.
