Please read the FAQ. Ask again if that does not answer your questions.

Both will fit (hell, an EJ22T will fit in my 95 Sedan, or so I am told).

The EJ20T will require a bit more work, but the engines are more readily available. If you get one out of a stock WRX, you are already a good 80hp and ftlbs up on the EJ22T.

But from what I hear, the EJ22T will pass the EJ20T in power potential. Something like 30 PSI can be run through the EJ22T before you start bending rods and breaking things.

If you can find an EJ22T for cheap, do that. But the EJ20T will be a bit more expensive, but most likely have fewer miles.

Are you doing a transmission swap to a 5-speed? That's what I am doing (pending donor).

You are fooling yourself. The EJ22-T block is closed deck and can sustain higher boost pressures. However, you cannot do this with a stock block. If you do get the EJ22-T complete, then you will need to replace the cast pistons and the heads before going for real power.

nonono, there are guys on legacy central that hvae been running off 15 psi for years and hvae no problems, there also is a guy that runs 20 or 21 when he drags and auto x's and has not had any problem.

No... sorry... do a seach and you will find that with stock internals and a great tune there are guys running 30PSI.....

But even tho its a closed deck it would still benifit from cast iron liners at that level...

I was responding to that.

The pistons are no different than the EJ20 offerings and are susceptible to cracking under any adverse conditions. I didn't say they aren't good motors and cannot run more than factory boost levels. 30psi is pushing it for many motors out there and to ascertain that as an easy possible is rediculous.

It is definitely a good possibility for a swap; just don't be deluded by people saying it is invincible and capable of absurd horsepower out of the box.

I have a EJ22T in my garage that needs a gasket set (which i also have sitting in a box). the motor is 100%, 160K on it. the motor is yours for $200 and the gasket set is $170.

the motor is just the block, heads, water passage and intake manifold, no turbo or x-member.

let me know its just taking up space.

Hmm.... Very tempting. I was planning on upgrading the turbo anyway...

Basically, it's the complete engine, only with the turbo and cross member taken off?

Should I be worried that the engine has 160k on it? Or would new heads and sleeves, pretty much return the engine to almost new?

hey, I have "refreshed" 3 of these engines, and they run happy for another 200K after new rings and seals. I clean everything and regrease everything. they are very sturdy.

I just have no time now, and my father and I have no time as we are restoring his '67 TVR.

Well Matt, I don't troll this whole site memorizing everything every one has posted, and honestly i try to see if things have been posted. I apologize for not having this bible memorized, I thought it was a forum to talk to others who had common interests, and liked to talk about cars. I'll make sure to point out everyone who asks a stupid question from here on out, will you let me in the club then.

Dude, relax for a second and wash the sand out of your mangina. In case you're new to posting on web forums, it's generally considered bad form to bump such an old thread. It's just an etiquette thing.

Furthermore, there's a very powerful search function on this forum. Clearly you found it because otherwise you would have never come across this ancient thread you brought up from the bottom of the sea.

That said, the things you need to consider are what are you going to do for engine management on either option. That's concern number one. It needs to be examined along with your local smog requirements and what it's going to do to the legality of driving your car on public roads. For many people that makes the decision for them. And not filling out your profile makes it impossible to guide you because we don't know where you are. I know California and Colorado law inside out. If you're from Tennesee there's another member who will likely be able to give you input on their local situation. Let people get to know you.

Also, if you read a little bit, you will find that free or next to free blown engines are a dime a dozen. That's because they are so expensive to repair compared to good used ones. You can fix it, but what's it going to cost you. And that still doesn't resolve all of the other things like intake plumbing, turbo location, intercooler, wiring, ecu, etc. etc. I suggest in addition to doing a bunch of reading here in Conversions also head over to the Normally Aspirated Aftermarket Forced Induction forum. Then make your own thread and ask educated questions about what you have concluded would be a good build path for you.

Nobody around here is going to spoon feed you the answers. The reason noone else posted to this thread in the week between my reply and now is because people were agreeing with me and my comment. Silence = agreement. We are a very helpful bunch of people if you show the least bit of interest in helping yourself. But if you act like a tool, you will get treated like a tool.

When you say EJ20T it means you need to do some researching.

Release there are 4 different EJ20Ts out there.

EJ20K, EJ20G, EJ20H (doubt you're talking about that though) and the USDM WRX EJ20 (don't know the official letter).
