TFM Members Please Read
Until further notice or unless a new name grabs us and slaps us around we are still called TFM. All the ideas that have been posted jsut don't have a ring to it. When I came up with TFM it just popped into my head. Nothing else has. So unless some one can come up with a name that has spice to it. All members of the club are members of TFM. Jsut understand the name is still up in the air as well as a logo. Thank you for your understanding.
Thanks Dan Pres TFM

Sounds like my e-mail to you. I agree though. TFM is original and an appropriate "club" name. Im still open to suggestions.

So original that it has one additional word added to the rice club over in IL by you? Fantasy Motorsports(rice shop) - Twizted Fantasy Motorsports(hmmm). Whatever. I'm done agruing about it. No one else will confront you two about this and I'm sick of being the only one to actually come out and say I don't like it.

I would not be putting down the name if I were you. You have yet to come up with something better.

Dan,
You take this name thing way too personal. You yourself are the one that told me Fantasy Motorsports was a rice shop or club by you in Illinois. I don't like the name, and have every right not to. Don't take it personally. Chad |

When it comes down to it, I'm gonna be involved no matter what the name is, I just don't want the name to deter possibly good members while it attracts ricers.

I agree with Chad - and I'm not so much concerned about getting ricers as I am about having a name that really is communicative and sounds, for lack of a better word, mature. I haven't been able to come up with something yet, but I shall!

Fantasy Motorsports is a rice shop only acctually it is called Fantasy Coachworks. And I do not want ricers. I am not taking this personally it is just that none of the ideas are really that good. All I am saying is that unless we can come up with soemthing that shows the purpose and respect of our club we shall remain name less. Now this keeps everyone happy I hope. Now all I need is for any prospective members, current members and so on to come up with ideas and at the next super meeting we shall present these adn vote. If there are any questions concerning the club or the name please e-mail me at [email protected] and if any prospective members who do not have e-mail I will PM my number to the regruter. Thank You for you patence and hope to hear from all of you soon.

how about Indecision Motorsports guess what, i do research on word recognition. we don't control for associations (at least the ones we aren't testing) because everyone has unique associations with different words and there is no way to take them all into account, even if we could possibly know what they all were. but instead of getting bogged down on this dilema, we just accept that different people are going to think different things when they see a word. perhaps a better methodology for the club would be not to concern itself with how ricers or lowriders are going to think when they hear the name and instead try getting something done. let our actions speak for themselves. "To know is to do"-Akira Kurosawa. if we doperformance related things, then other enthusiasts will knowwhat we are about and judge the club on merits of member activities rather than the bloody name.

i was thinking, perhaps we should all get together and watch 'Life of Brian" then we could try and do the opposite. or we could just name the club People's Front of Judea. no one would expect that and it has no rice conotations

Actually Shawn, do you think I would have said that if I were the only one? If I were the only one, would we still be discussing this? I thought everyone had expressed some dismay with the name at some point in time, except you and Dan. I could be wrong. I would hope all this was not to satisfy me only. I doubt it was. There have been many suggestions that will fit us I believe. $HIT, this is the single most important decision we will make as a club. Lets get it right.
But if I'm the only one concerned and you want to settle, lets settle. I'm here either way. Chad |

See, now we're getting some good choices. I like all of those that Joel and Shawn just mentioned, especially MAPEC and Team Velocity. Lets keep 'em flowing and vote at the next meeting, hopefully before April 22 auto-x.

Wheels that occasionally Spin = Wheelspin Motorsports
Driving by the Tachometer instead of the speedo = TachDriver Association All about the curves = Apex Motorsports Smooth HP application = Powerband Motorsports All gas = Pedalstand Think of other phrases that mean cool car stuff. The problem I had with Twisted Fantasy was was emphasized by the fact that Fantasy Motorsports is Actually Fantasy Coachworks. God I hated those custom vans. The commercials were good though, nice 80's bikinis and what not. What it comes down to is this, I am damn near 30. I have grown to like classy things, so if I am going to have a car club sticker on my car, it is going to be a classy one. Not a sticker that makes propsectives dates of mine wonder if I hit puberty yet. Yes this is very important to the club, identity is the one thing that you cannot slack on. Without identity, there is no club. I do a lot of work with online communities, and I could make a list of crazy successes and failures (online communities mirror brick and mortar ones). But the first and formost priority of any aspiring club should be a clear purpose, a descriptive and meaningful name, and a clearly demarked target audience (meaning you can't try to be everything for everyone or else it becomes meaningless to be a memeber). What exactly is our purpose? Is it to compete aggressively with our cars? Or is it just to have a car. I realize we are having trouble with the name, so I will skip it for now. What is our target membership? Is it anyone who has a car? I realize it isn't just local Scooby Drivers but what exactly makes entry in our club both exclusive and meaningful? As soon as you can definitively answer these questions, you have the making of a successful club. And by virture of it's success, it will be respected. But hey, I am just the new guy. I don't have tons of time to be dedicating to the club anyway. I will definitely do what I can when I can, but between my Australian Rules Football team, my mountain biking fetish, and a crazy work schedule, it will be hard. I want to be involved as much as my time will allow. So in that regard, I have a vested interest in being a part of the club. I still think dan needs to buy a scooby and then we can make it an exclusive subaru owners club [This message has been edited by uniballer (edited April 11, 2001).] |

If I could get a Subaru I would but my insurance would be through the roof. The names were awsome and yes we need to define all the things listed above.
Do you guys want to hold a meeting next monday to vote on a name. I will be making a list this weekend of the ones we liked and mentioned. We can vote then. The more people the happier the votes will be. |

Here's one that came to me in an e-mail I was writing to shawn. Really simple, but it get's the point accross. Basically, I was saying we should have a name that suggests performance, and I liked Jason's idea with the thesaurus. The name is something that WILL reflect on the club no matter what we do. Most of you can agree, when they see the RS, alot of uneducated people think "Rice", or it's some hopped up slow fwd 4cyl. The name of the club should be indicative of our goals: Performance.
Now, here's what I came up with, the name is simple, and the layout get's the point across. Team Velocity Speed, Perfomance, Agility, Power Simple, to the point, and it shows we mean business. Opinions? |

I am still trying to decide on either MAPEC or Team Velocity. I am currently looking through the Car Club national registry to see if either of these club names are taken. So far MAPEC is not taken and I am getting closer to finding Team Velocity is also still open. What do you guys think? Vote now or forever hold your peace.
So far the score it: Team Velocity 1 MAPEC 0 Time to vote guys unless you want to add a couple more names to the list. Dan Pres of the nameless car club |
