Angry Am I the Only One Sick and Tired of "I Wrecked My WRX so Give Me Sympathy" Threads?

I'm sorry, but I just have to rant for a little bit. I don't frequent the New Age or General forums very much anymore. One reason is the extremely low information density. Another more irritating aspect is the periodic appearance of threads by some yahoo which go something like this, "I just wrecked my WRX by (pick your poison 1. trying to play rally driver, 2. exercising really poor situational judgement, 3. driving with ignorance beyond my meager skill level) and I want sympathy. Oh yeah, and if you righteously rag on me then :monkey:."

Witness these most recent examples:
Idiot Number 1

Idiot Number 2

Now, I started out vilifying each guy for his stupidity but eventually I realized I was just pi$$ing in the wind and stopped. If you're gonna post about a "stupid" shunt, by all means be a grown-up and take it. Please don't whine about how we're all being nasty to you. You were an idiot. Admit it. Move on. And for goodness sakes, what do you get from giving the monkey to people who have driven more cars many more miles than you have?

I guess I'm just getting weary hearing about young, inexperienced drivers destroying the cars we love. Seriously, my insurance has gone up twice since I first got my rex. Hmmm, wonder what that's due to?

Oh well, thanks for listening to my "angry old man" rant.

Wilkey

Yeah but dude, I just watched my 30th hour of WRC on Speed! I'm a trained expert and what they do isn't that tough, I can do it too! I mean, after all, I do have a WRX, who needs all that junk in a real wrc car. They can't listen to tunes like I can while getting into a 4-wheel slide on a busy street. I also did one autocross and now I'm an expert. So what I was last place, that's because on the street hitting the white lines doesn't count. What was up with them getting so upset when I took out all those cones? I mean, man, they're like bitches or something. And that light was broken, on the corner of 4th and West I can jump the light in under 1 second! It's da bomb! </sarcasm>

I can't even fake half the street racers I've met, I must be old as well.

you're going about it all wrong... You need to find the humor and make up excuses for how they wreck the car...

"So, I was practicing my Grand Turismo driving when all of a sudden.."

I read the first post that you pointed to and flashed back to Tim O'Neil saying the car only does one thing at a time, brake, turn, etc. "The last thing Im sure of is that I felt a small flick in the brake and then I did a 180 at about 30-35 MPH. " Hmm, how the heck do you feel a small flick in the brake? He further writes: "Ive read a bit about, and experienced, the ABS brakes being a bit "oversensitive". Could this have possibly CAUSED the spin?" So the dude applied the brakes in a corner, in the rain, going a bit tooo fast. hahaha

I still think we should come up with better excuses. That one could be: "So, I was practicing my left foot braking and..."

Hehe, I guess you guys are a bit more adept at pulling humor out of this. maybe it's time for bed.

Ken, there was that one guy way back who said exactly that he was trying to drift on the highway at "Gran Tourismo" speeds and cracked it up.

Oh well, I just wish there was a central clearinghouse for wrecked WRX parts. I wouldn't mind getting a hold of a some spares for cheap.

I'm with you guys, but then again, they do have gran turismo, rallispec, colin McRae and Speed, so they should be trained professionals or something.

I like to thing of it as natural selection- then again, Ithink that comes with the job a little bit

speed safely

hmm.. I wrecked a car while displaying all THREE of these mindsets. Damn.

I fully support you in your rant, and while I sorta see where these n00bz are coming from, I have little sympathy in their quest for solitude from a sob story. Yes, wrecking a car sucks... I've rarely felt such an abundance of self hatred as when I wrecked my car in Dec. '00, but these newbies must learn that we uh... don't care.

The thing that gets me is the WRX handles SOOOOO good. Theres no excuse to crash it but stupidity. Unless it was out of your hands.

Excellent points all! I guess I'm now well past the anger stage and into the c'est la vie state of mind. I guess it's live and learn afterall. Hey, who hasn't had an accident of some sort? I mangled my dad's Olds the first summer I had my license. It was indeed a "stupidity/inexperience-based" event.

As for genetic selection...don't get me started on that one. It's clear that modern civilization has effectively negated the processes of natural selection in homo sapiens and vastly distorted selection in the rest of nature. Just a little miffed on this topic...Stephen Jay Gould died this week.

V6TurboTA, I agree, the WRX is really easy to drive. As long as you power into turns (preferably not on RE92s) the car feels like it can handle anything. And by extension, the driver starts to feel like he can handle anything. But I still drive on RE92s and have felt the tail start to drift partway through curves on dry and wet and the automatic response is not quick countersteer with a judicious application of throttle. It is, throttle lift or a dab at the brakes. Hence all the anguish.

Brian, you are always there with a pithy statement that cuts right to the core.

Wisdom and experience both have a price, and sometimes take a while to get.

I spun my Dad's AMG-prepped Mercedes 190 off an offramp once in the rain, (with him in the passenger seat), and smashed up my fair share of cars, usually by rear-ending someone while I was spacing out.

Now I give lots and lots of room, and all my corners are "care", "slippy" and "don't cut".

Yup. These guys are total morons.

These aren't "driving in normal conditions and got cut off by a truck" kind of accidents, they're just stupid people doing stupid things. We should be allowed to hunt them.

Well, my comment about the pithy reply was targeted at Brian, the guy who drives a Subaru. Does that help?

not to totally disagree with you...but the WRX handles like slop for something that's supposed to be a "sports-type" car. My RS handles better, and my old RX-7 was way better. The WRX's handling leaves a lot to be desired...

From what I have seen so far, the majority of those drivers are newbies in i-club. This going to effect all of us because the insurance rate of the impreza is going up since the introduction of the impreza as well as wrx. My insureance for my car has not gone down yet after 5 years of owning my car.

Just my though.
