Totally transformed is an understatement, however i have did a lot of other things along the way as well, but it feels and drives like normal, when driving sedately, open her up and lookout, you need to keep your wits about you...

yeah i haven't seen anything either.

The map is really similar to a regular gt3076r (actually out flows it some) so if the new aero does allow better spool (earlier boost threshold) for a given lb/hr compressor size the gtx3071 could be the best turbo ever for a DD subaru. If it doesn't it will still have better response and +5hp ish on a regular gt3076...

(sitting on the edge of my seat waiting...)

Cause i want one of these

My ATP GTX3071 will be here in mid July hopefully so I might have something to post for everyone. It's going on my destroked 2.5L build as stated earlier. I'm hoping it will fit perfectly!

I dont think the new aero improves spool. It seems that the new aero produces the same boost threshhold of the older wheel with more power. The old 3071 performed similarly to the 76 since they had the same turbine wheel.
I would like to see as well though for the file, but that's just my prediction.

The GTX aero doesn't improve spool-up, per se. The idea was to make a higher flowing, more efficient wheel in the same size package as the older GT stuff.

However, you could improve spool if you look at it slightly differently. If you had a "regular" GT3076R, and replaced it with the GTX3071R you would have a 5mm smaller wheel...hence faster spool-up.

And, you get the same / slightly higher max flow. And higher compressor efficiency, leading to lower charge-air temps, hence higher midrange torque and the ability to run more timing.

You'd also get better transient response too (which doesn't show up on a map or dyno graph). Cruising along at part throttle, if you go to WOT immediately, the turbo will respond faster and you'll get more torque "on demand."

The gt3071 and 76 do have different turbine wheels however the gtx3071 has the same turbine as the 76 to not choke out the extra flow.

Actually, all 4 turbos share the same turbine wheel (GT3071R, GT3076R, GTX3071R, GTX3076R). The only 30-sized wheel that's slightly different is the cut-down one that was made to fit in the smaller GT28 style internally wastegated housings. It starts out life as the same wheel too, though.

The turbine wheel was basically "ahead of its time" when it came out originally so it is holding up quite well with the new compressor aero on the GTX turbos.

aaaanddd you would be incorrect

please read under turbine diameter.

I read
Code:
56.5mm 90trim for the gt3071r
60mm 84 trim for the gtx3071, gt3076, and gtx3076

Sorry...not incorrect.

That first link you posted is the "cut down" GT3071R I was referring to. Check out the turbine inlet diameter...56.5mm. This smaller inducer was necessary to get the GT30 wheel to fit in the wastegated GT28 housings.

The Garrett site's drop down menu is actually missing a link to the "normal" GT3071R. However you can find it on the products/turbochargers page. It has a 60mm turbine wheel, 84 trim just like all the other GT/GTX 30s. CHRA part numbers are 700177-22 and -23.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not secretly wishing for a bad result for this turbo.

It's logical to expect it to perform better than the old 3076 due to the smaller compressor wheel. It's just that the old 3071 already had a smaller compressor wheel and had only marginally better response (yes I know that this is subjective, but it's my opinion based off of driving one). That's why I'm waiting for results as well, but I doubt that the gains over the old 3076 will be easy to quantify.

Wh Dia 60mm

If u look further down the drop down list it is there.

What i dont understand is if the GT3082 never worked, people hated them and Garrett have taken it off their website cause the turbine couldn't flow the compressor potential, then why will a GTX3076 work?

A lot of it has to do with the speed/flow match between the compressor and turbine wheels. If you look at the compressor maps for the regular 3582 and the GTX3076, the GTX3076 has to spin faster to reach the same pressure ratio and flow rates as the 3582. This better matches the smaller turbine wheel.

So would a GT35r with a tial hotside in a .63 be better than a gtxr35 with a 63.? If no one knows its fine, no big deal.

Both would suck unless it was a 1.8 or 2.0 motor.

Jeff do you have any plans to test the new GTX3576R? It would seem a larger turbine wheel is required to make the most out of the 64lbs/min 11 blade 76mm wheel. The smaller 76mm wheel should also spool faster than the laggier GTX3582. I would love to see a GTX3076 vs GTX3576 comparison.

I agree. That is a test I would like to see, but I since know its going to be a little bit of a wait before people can get there hands on that turbo.

You sure?

Passes a bar of boost at 3800 RPM and makes over 500whp at 23psi.
