Default Did you guys see my new toy? I know Goosey has...

Yeah, I posted this in NESIC a while back, but I figured to share it with the OT crew.

As many of you know, I'm selling my RS...so this is what I'm getting to hold me over until the next new car. I pick it up next weekend. It only has 73,000 miles on it!

It's got a 1.9L 4 cylinder with a 3-speed automatic (boo). Weighs about 2200lbs, too

Some day, in a couple years, it WILL have a rotary powerplant with the RX-7's drivetrain. Only down side is the leaf-springs and shocks, but they can all be upgraded, and oh will they be!

btw, the car is a 1973 Opel GT. Pretty rare nowadays.

So are you parting out any goodies from your RS ? I actually didn't know you were getting rid of it. I'll pour one out for you this weekend.

That car looks pretty sweet. I love anyhting with nice curves like that. reminds me of a stubby stingray.

Too cool! There's a burned out Opel GT in a junkyard a few miles from my house. I love the way the headlights rotate... So nice!

You should see this car next to a Stingray, it's like Mini Me! Besides, both were built by GM...

Have fun with it!

Those are rare?! Hell, I pass 2 of them on the way to work every day. One has been for sell for the last year or so, and the other is owned by a guy that has a few old Corvettes and stuff sitting around too. It DOES look kinda odd sitting next to a Stingray Corvette, though

well, despite what you see, they're not that popular, at least, not in New England... Aside from my father's (this one here, which is mine now), I've never seen another one.

Before you go throwing a rotary in it. You should do a little research on the Opel engine. I had a Manta 1900 in high school (10 years ago) and in the end it had chevy 265 flat top pistons and a shaved head with some 327 Valves. Aparently even though the engine was designed and built in Germany, a lot of people figured out how to make this stuff work and work well I must say. Stock my Opel ran 18.5 in the quarter But with the mods in the end it actually ran a 15.8 @ 83 (not a rocket but not too shaby). It had a bunch of low end torque too. Heard you can even do five speed conversions.

yeah, I've also been looking into things like that, just rebuilding the stock motor.

but even after a rebuild, I've spend $4,000 on just the engine, and I still have a 1973 block. If I went rotary, it would be $4,000 for both the engine and transmission (or so).

I dunno, still checking out my options. There's even the idea of a 350

I have a 1973 Datsun 240Z turbo. Kinda looks a little like your Opel. My car isn't very rare though. I love it nevertheless.

that was my first car, rebuilt with the stock 4spd. I gotta say I wish i had never sold it. Sold it to buy a turbo Z which subsequently blew up on me a few thousand miles later. In south Texas I needed Air conditioning too... which wasn't an option on an Opel. - My favorite was the GM belt buckles hehe...

Hehehe... I found ANOTHER one, JGard I took a different way home from work yesterday and passed by a place called "Sports Car Salvage". They had an Opel GT sitting out front with some other old beat up cars.... and two Lotus Europa's on the roof as their logo

It looks like a Corvette because they were designed by the same man. The Opel GT was designed before the Corvette BTW, so it may be more accurate to say the old vettes look like an Opel GT.

eh? what's this $4,000 number include? a naturally aspirated 13B, 5 speed from a turbo 2nd-gen, conversion bits (crossmember, radiator, etc) and labor?

because if you meant engine and tranny alone, you're way high. a friend is getting a 3 rotor from japan for $2000 to san francisco, then another $300 or so trucked here to doodah.

OMG I LOVE THOSE THINGS!

There's a guy around here that has one in such nice condition...He refuses to let anyone TOUCH the thing. His dad bought it new, and left it to him in his will. It has less 20k on it IIRC! My WRX has almost that much!!! He drives it once (ocasionally twice) a month, keeps it garaged (w/a dehumidifier in the garage), covered, details it monthly, waxes it every 6mos or so...He treats that car like it's a shrine to the gods or something.

I want it

Out of curiosity...How much did you pay for it? I might like one as a beater ^_^

Colin, that number was a guess. If a 3-rotor is THAT cheap, I think I may go for that!

S-K, my dad is actually giving it to me. He knows that I'm kinda low on money, especially with getting a apartment (which up here is about $1500 for a 2-bedroom), so since he replaced it with a Miata, he's giving it to me. I'm pretty psyched, I've always had to pay for my own cars, but not this time
