what I like about this thread is that it "sticks the fork in it" to the threads of people wondering how much power the stock motor will take. Also proves that it IS the tune that matters. subscribed to find out more info on the the car is doing with all that powa!!

Off topic, I know in some thread you said you rarely make drag passes anymore, but have you tried making a pass on your 6 speed? I'm wondering how the gearing will affect it's time.

that thing will blow in a few months. the stock 2.0s just cant take that power for long. some let go sooner, some later, but eventually they all do when significantly over 300whp. they spin bearings or thow rods. ive seen it. impressive indeed, but dont expect that to last long.

Hahaha... yea yea.

My guess is either piston death or rod bearing death. I think they told me, but I don't seem to be able to recall. I think it was pretty mundane.

Just because some of the quoting is misleading....my car is still running strong.....I'm not the GT30R guy......

So the GT30R EJ205 blew up apparently? Heh why am I not surprised....hehe

Yeah I just got it retuned by Doug @ Topspeed and it's making nice crazy power. And this engine has just cracked the 100,000 mile mark

^I love to see stuff like this. My vf34 setup was last tuned at 62k miles on the car and I made a few changes (still on the vf34 though) and at 87k made more power.

Yeah, no doubt. The ringlands on a WRX (on the right) aren't any different than the ringlands on an n/a Legacy piston ('97 in this case).

So are the legacy pistons awesome, or the WRX ones weak? Like it needs answered....

Sounds like as long as there is no knock, it can take a beating. I think water/alk inj is proving to be the ej205's best friend for longevity.

Its more about the alloy/process of how they are made than the thickness of the ringlands. If I recall correctly, the V.7 and V.8 ringlands are the same size as WRX ringlands, but well all know what order we can put them in terms of holding power.... I'll have to get my pistons out and do a side by side comparison again. I have some of all 3.

Indeed. The EJ207 pistons are forged whereas the WRX are cast or whatever you call it.
