In-car Video from VIR Grand (Mazdadrivers)
Here's some of my video from this past weekend running the VIR Grand course with Mazdadrivers. It was my first time running this configuration and I absolutely loved it, can't wait to do it again next year. I'll keep adding to this as I upload. As always, comments and suggestions would be great. I was running in the high 3:12's to low 3:13's by the end of the weekend. I know of at least one STi prepped almost exactly the same as mine (only with a better driver behind the wheel) running high 3:10's so I have plenty of room for improvement.

Yeah the PFC 01 pads squeal like hell, even when they are fully up to temp. They are the best pads I've used though, no fade and consistent bite (and they bite hard enough to get into ABS every time if you aren't careful). Definitely more difficult to modulate than Pagids but that's to be expected. And VIR is definitely awesome, the Grand course is even more fun than Full. If you are on the East Coast it's worth the trip.

My two comments (I only watched the first couple laps, so if you adjusted your line then disregard ):
- No need to clip an apex at the kink between turns 2 and 3. If you watch the fast run groups everyone stays out mid-track through that kink, making it easier to get all the way out to the right edge of the track prior to turning in for the NASCAR bend (turn 3). - It seems like you should be turning in earlier at turn 9, the last right hand turn in the Uphill Esses. You shouldn't have to go any slower, just turn in earlier and that way you'll come out track right, ready for the left hand turn 10. Hopefully I'll get some video captured tonight, I've been lazy thus far today. Pat Olsen |

Thanks for the comments Pat. Later in the footage I do experiment a bit in that kink but I agree looking back now that I could swing that wider. I think I see what you're saying about Turn 9 as well, I just need to work on getting the weight transferred sooner.

This is only a portion of a lap, but it shows the kink and turn 9. Note that the white STI and red RX-7 in front of my stay well off the "apex" at the kink (as do I). And I think you can get some idea of how turning in earlier at 9 keeps you track right - I basically follow the rumble strip right around. It may not be as easy to do for a car that's carrying more speed up at the top of the Esses, but even with my foot on the floor from the bridge to the top of the Esses I'm only doing a bit over 100mph.

Hey, that white STi is me! Never seen myself from outside of the car. Very cool.
You were driving the NO TRBO legacy, right Pat? You were hauling ass in the turns. I see your name on the list for July 4/5. I'm on the wait list, so not sure if I'll get in. Hopefully I'll see you at the track next week. |

Yup, that was me. There were a number of Subie people I never got around to talking to, but I saw you on track just about every session (as I let you by! ).

BTW, will you be at the NASA event at the end of July? I finally got bumped into HPDE3 so hopefully I'll see you out on the track next time |
