Default Bulletproof TMIC install

Installed my bulletproof TMIC this morning from SeeeeeYa. Quick shipping and great quality with great install directions. This how to will supplement his written instructions that come with the kit. Off we go

Heres the tools you will need:
BP TMIC kit from SeeeeeYa
12mm socket
10mm socket
Pliers
flat head screw driver
Clamp kit from Advance auto/autozone/pepboys/salvo

Here is the pic of the kit and the clamp set i bought

Stock 2011 wrx engine bay/tmic

I first removed the tmic. Unclamp the bpv and remove the 2 10mm bolts

Remove the 3 12mm bolts holding the TMIC bracket in place and remove the bracket

Next i removed the 2 12mm turbo side bolts

Loosen up the throttle body hose clamp using your flathead screw driver

Wiggle off the TMIC and remove from the vehicle. Your car should look like this now...

Now below the center of the intake manifold you will see the BPV source hose that needs a corbin clamp installed on it. This can potentially lead to boost leaks later so might as well clamp it now.

Install the clamp and hook it back up to the engine

Also install one on the opposite end of the same hose on the bpv

Now is time to install the bulletproof tmic kit. I didnt document this process because the directions couldnt be any better from SeeeeeYa. The install is very straight forward and pretty easy to do. The kits specs are spot on. On thing I did to install the rails was to use a piece of wood and a rag to tap the rails into place as to not leave marks on the aluminum rails.

Final Assembly:

Reseat TMIC into car and wiggle onto the tb hose and tighten clamp

Install your turbo side bolts

Reconnect the recirc hose to bpv while you have a little extra wiggle room with out the TMIC bracket.

Reinstall tmic bracket making sure to put the rubber washer, metal side up, back on the tmic if you removed it.

Tighten all your bolts up and your done!

Overall impression....... Well I noticed absolutely no difference in driving or power. This is a safety feature and ensure my TMIC will not seperate. The kits' directions were written well. I thought it would be nice to just have some supplementry pictures of the install for others to see. Overall the install process took about an hour with taking pictures along the way. Easy mod to perform to ensure the most longevity out of your stock TMIC setup.

Huge shout out to SeeeeeYa for his great communication, awesome quality and even faster shipping on the kit!

Default Another Excellent Install Thread!

This thread has provided more than one BP Mod installer a good visual guide. Excellent photos and words... I should do as well.

Interesting how the very same mod gets into different forums... its fundamental reason for being transcending category.

Another great ride gets even better.

Thank you for this. I couldn't find any pictures for how to remove the TMIC from a 3g wrx. After seeing this I realize how easy it is but I still think this might be the only thread on the internet documenting how to do it and for that I thank you.

I absolutely agree! And am fortunate to be able to contribute.

The OP in that thread is there with my blessings. The BulletProof TMIC Mod has become Subaru Community property. No longer need we be held hostage by big-buck vendors that often provide less.

The original mod has become more refined as the membership contributes, and is an excellent option for everyone with an LGT or 08+ WRX.

Thanks to everyone.

I've done this to my '05 LGT with great results. Also got my kit from the same guy on the Legacy forums (BarManBean). Highly recommended service and shipment time.

Having had both of those I can say with certainty that the OEM TMIC is superior to the Perrin in traffic. Certainty.

The OEM LGT, 08+ WRX TMIC is THE best Daily Driver TMIC available, bar none. The reason is simple, it has less metal in it which means there is less reservoir for heat to accumulate, or soak. Its smaller, but highly efficient core also has less mass, by far, than the bar-and-plate of the Perrin, which also has heavy aluminum end-tanks. Even when the OEM TMIC does get inevitably hot in traffic, it quickly cools down. The Perrin is exactly the opposite.

The ONLY advantage the bulky Perrin, and others built similarly, have over the OEM TMIC is less internal resistance... an advantage traded at the cost of cooling efficiency. The OEM TMIC is the better intercooler, in multiple ways.

Once reinforced with the BulletProof-TMIC Mod the OEM TMIC is not only capable of holding any boost you want to thrown at it, it is also a capable intercooler for track duty as well...

I've been running this kit for well over a year. I have done >10 trackdays at 18 and 20 psi on it. It has and still is holding strong. Highly recommended if you want to run >18psi on the stock TMIC without issues.

Hmm, i'm running the bulletproof mod on mine as of now as well and I can vouch that it works like a charm

My next plans either included getting a larger TMIC, or an EWG setup, but I guess with the info posted above, bring on the EWG!!

It's possible, but likely would only cause increased frustration. Removing the intercooler is not difficult, and doing so allows you to inspect everything and make sure the rails are all seated completely.

I posted my experience with that. It is possible, but stupid. To seat the rails properly they must be lightly hammered/tapped into position. That can't be done with hand pressure alone. In my attempt I got beneath the car and used a piece of dowel to tap the rail into place from underneath. In the process I messed up the intercooler fins badly. Later, when I took it off and did it right, it took a long time to straighten them out and it still looked nasty. Don't try it.

I did that because ideally that's the way I wanted the Mod to work. Fail. Take the TMIC off, it's utterly simple and easy. Not only that, you NEED to address the BPV sense hose underneath which can only be done with the IC off.

What is this BPV sense hose issue you speak of? Please explain
