Cool, missed seeing the video link. I think pics at night of that would be very nice, of both just the DRL's and then also with the high beams on.

No, I haven't seen anything yet (surprisingly). I was kinda hoping to see something here since you guys have the fine lighting segment for the new model on lock. But I would definitely pay loot to have a plug-and-play solution, and seeing as my STI order won't even be here until October... I'm patient, lol.

Actually it wasn't supposed to have a question mark. It was supposed to be a period. Oops.
I need to take the vehicle home a couple of weekends to see if any plugs could be made. Quote:

I am getting some sample pieces of a new product that would light up the entire C light in a uniform manner. It would also have an option to function as a turn signal. Last edited by Subi Speed; 05-31-2014 at 08:04 PM. |

The DRL is still a conventional resistor setup (already unplugged mine).

I know you don't want to do the core swap thing but a complete system (blacked out like the Limited trim) with what I mentioned plus HID's....would be a GREAT product IMO. WINK WINK....ELBOW...ELBOW....COUGH COUGH....lol |

Hey Subi Speed.. any answer to my question from the last page? Does your LED drl/hi beam bulb basically have 1 brightness setting hence making the high beam no longer existing?

Just an FYI, I dont think LED's in the base/premium n the C lights light up bright enough in the daytime to really work for DRL's. There basically has to be more leds or some sort of tubing to make them brighter.

Yes, he answered that in a couple post up. It is just 1 brightness setting for it all. Curious to see a comparision picture for this though of the high beams vs LED. Has me a bit hesitant on doing this given 20hrs of darkness in the winter here...

This weekend the vehicle is with our tuner. I'll see if I can split the setup down the middle with OEM bulbs on one side and aftermarket on the other. Do some pictures and GoPro stuff another weekend though.
The OLM DRL / High Beam definitely puts out some light vs the SMD or Plasma 9005 bulbs you usually see on the market. A lot of those bulbs are deceiving as they sum up the wattage of each individual LED chip and sell them as 50W or 80W bulbs. This doesn't equate to more light on the road most of the time. They also don't work well with the reflectors in most casings. What little light they do project, isn't focused properly at all. I'm always looking for interesting options out there. Will be sure to post up the findings. -Chris |

^Thank you for putting in the time to do things the right way, while "white light" is visually nicer I'm the type that tries to keep things functional so white for the sake of white is not the goal so I appreciate your outlook on mods.

With the risk of sounding stupid......
So when you replace the stock DRL bulbs with the OLM bulbs, your DRL is running at high beam intensity all the time now? Just trying to clarify this because I'd really like to get these. But if this means running a DRL that is at high beam intensity all the time, it does not sound like a viable or safe solution. The stock DRL is the high beam at "half" brightness which I'm assuming is to not blind people with high beams all day long. Granted my assumptions on being "safe" are not scientific and I do not know what this bulb looks like at full brightness in the day. More than happy to be wrong about it. I'm just going off of the times I'm blinded by people with horrible lighting setups even in the day time because of their HID kits. Don't want to be that guy just to get a better looking setup. And thank you for all the write ups and info. It's been an amazing help understanding the new platform. |

I'm basically ordering a full light kit. License plate, dome lights, DRL/high beam, glass fog light upgrade, LED fog lights. Total cost $296.70. Free shipping. I have a Limited due in next month and don't need the headlight or C light upgrade.
I'm going to unclip the DRL. I want the better bulb for the high beam function. |

There is a note on the bottom of the product that you might want to turn your lows on in the hours of dusk for this reason. While it's bright outside everyone's eyes have adjusted accordingly.
I will continue to see if there are more solutions out there. Wiring the PWM dimmer could possibly work. Quote:

I found that the default adjustment is pointed up and the adjusters are incapable of maintaining a level or downward angle. The adjusting mechanism is poorly constructed and results in the reflector jumping up and down in the case. In addition the reflector pattern in these lights is more a floodlight than a foglight. To top it off the 55W halogen bulb was overheating the case in the very short time I was attempting to aim them. The 19W stock foglights are a better solution than these things. |

Prior to putting this on our site, the setup was used on our vehicle for about a week. We've switched from stock, to these, to the OLM projectors, and back again for all sorts of testing. This lamps is not just used with the WRX platform so it's been in production for a couple years from this manufacturer. Is it possible that it was adjusted out of range? V/R, Chris Quote:
We could look into having a relay harness on hand, but with the low current draw of these HIDs we haven't had too many requests. If they were a 55W ballast, we'd start to recommend the use of a relay. The Subaru's electrical system isn't like the Hyundai Sonata. We've had no reports of ECU issues with this platform or the similar FR-S. |

Did you find any of this to be true when you installed the glass fogs? I ordered these (haven't arrived yet) and just want to know if it was user error or a legit issue with the housing. I also ordered the LED fog light bulbs. Will these work with the glass housing? |

The lamps are actually marked which side is the top. I believe the customer installed them upside down =(. As they tried to "lower" them, they were actually raising them. Eventually with enough torque on the adjustment, it basically gave way. We've sold hundreds of these for other platforms and never had a report that one was pointed to the sky. This is the only explanation I can think of without getting the part back. Last edited by Subi Speed; 06-06-2014 at 11:25 PM. |
