Would the bypass for BT you mentioned be the same green wire to bypass (ground) for video?

I think they can be had off ebay for like 7 bucks shipped. I had one leftover from my old Pioneer 4100 from my MS3 that i purchased years back. i think there are tutorials on youtube for building one. I believe it's pretty simple, but I'm a bit lazy and lack confidence on those sorts of things.

and yes, it's the same bypass for both the bluetooth and video. it serves to "trick" the H/U into thinking the parking brake is engaged.

Thanks again. I believe all you need to do to bypass the parking brake/video is ground the green instead of connecting to parking brake power. Of course I do not condone this. It is simply theoretical.

Ok, I like it so much I am going to order the Pioneer AVH-P4400BH for my 2012 Impreza Sport Premium. Now, I will need to figure out all the additional pieces to the puzzle to make sure the steering wheel controls and bluetooth will work. I will also be adding an amp and upgrade speakers.

I can confirm this. I just spent $6.90 for a brake bypass shipped on ebay. They have "micro" bypasses for $10 or so, but I didn't see the need for that.

check with SVXdc http://ae64.com/ , but I have a feeling the 2012 impreza uses the same 20pin harness. you'll need a SWC module of one variation or another.

I didn't add speakers, just my Infinity Basslink that;s been in 2 other cars of mine. Even without new speakers, the Pioneer and Basslink make my car sound much much better.

at that price, it doesn't even seem worth trying to build one. that's awesome

ok, so i got the SVXdc harness installed tonight. steering wheel controls work perfectly....sort of:
Volume controls control volume
^v buttons move selection (track or radio station preset) back or forward
Mode button switches between mode

Bluetooth controls are recognized, but don't work as labeled:
off hook and on hook buttons seem to function the same as the ^v buttons
the voice command button mutes or activates the "ATT" function depending on your settings

I'll have to do some research over the next few weeks to see if the issue lies within the H/U or the Axxess ASWC module.

The good news is, in the meantime, that the buttons can be reassigned, so if the way the bluetooth buttons are set up don't float your boat they can be changed to something more preferable.

if i can get the bluetooth buttons to function as labeled, that's dbe the icing on the cake. as it stands right now, my main goal has been achieved: to be able to control volume and skip tracks from the SWC.

You used to be able to do this, but manufacturers caught on and made it so the wire has to see a signal and then be grounded (e-brake engaged). I achieved this with a relay from autozone. Wired like so

Just make sure that you have another wire coming off the remote in case you want to add an amp later.

Although I probably have an Axxess ASWC sitting at my doorstep right now from Amazon, I just purchased the 20-pin harness w/ SWC wires and another Axxess ASWC from svxDC (guaranteed to have the latest firmware). I also expect to have the AVH-P3400 hitting my doorstep any day now from Crutchfield, however that will also be making its way back to sender, as I've officially decided to go with the AVH-P4400 .

I'm sadly having a late night at the office right now, but I will hopefully be picking up my Metra 95-8902 dash kit after I leave work and then I think I should be in a holding pattern until all proper items make their way to my door! Time to sit back and relax

slowhat - I've heard the BT steering wheel buttons are sometimes off with the auto setup. Let me know if anything changes through your research/playing with config options.

badz....you won't regret your decision to go with the 4400. IMO it looks a lot cleaner than the 3400.

in other news: bluetooth steering wheel buttons work with the 4400! w00t!

the push to talk button doesn't work as a push to talk button, but the ASWC made it into an "ATT" button, which is perfect, since i never used push to talk anyway.

as it turns out, the only reason i couldn't get them to work the first time is because i was F'ing up the ASWC programming, by rushing through it.

on a sidenote, i have an extra Scosche dash kit (part # SU2027B), sealed in factory packaging, that i will sell to someone who needs it, as well as a 20 pin wiring harness. The harness doesn't have the wires needed for the steering wheel controls, but those can be added.

Someone should do a one-post write-up on this install. Then add it to the HU sticky. I think the Pioneer AVH series HU will have many customers from Subaru including the newer 2011 and 2012 Impreza's. It would not take that much to explain the install step by step along with the parts needed such as the SWC part#, Brake bypass#, 20 pin part # and where to get these items from. I know, I know, I know there is stuff in the FAQ's but that is mostly on older stuff. With Subaru becoming the leader in AWD and fuel economy, I think there will be many new forum members who will want to know this upgrade. I mean, I don't even have my car yet (factory order) and I want to get everything together for the install. So how many others want this information?

good call. I'll be happy to do it, and just tack it on to my first post.

I'll get something up this weekend. I've been meaning to summarize this thing anyway.

I had the same issues with my aswc unit and a pioneer unit. I had to manually program the buttons and they worked perfect. For some reason the auto program function doesn't work 100% for the bt controls

Just sent an email to SVXdc to order the 20 pin harness. My local audio place should have 4400's in stock today or early next week. Getting excited! I think it's safe to say that after this and the full suspension I just purchased my wife will kindly ask me to cease and desist further car-related purchases for a while.

Edit: Can anyone fill me in on App Mode or any of the iPhone-related bells and whistles? I'm an Android guy so I'm wondering if I would still be able to use the Pandora function for example. Also what, "Apps" are we talking about here that have functionality?

Pioneer is in bed with Apple in regards to all those features. You can still get solid integration of your Android phone using the BT features though. You just won't have any fancy clip art and thumbs up/down features on the Pioneer screen when listening to Pandora. The same can be said about the other "App Mode" features AFAIK.

Thanks, I shouldn't be driving around spending more time playing with my HU anyway. BT and occasional streaming of audio is all I care about.

badz is right. there's no app integration with Android on the 4400. I've got a Galaxy Nexus and streaming Google Music is great, and all phone functions are great, but no Apps.

If you're stuck on the idea of using Android apps with a Pio double din....you should check out the Appradio2
But even with that, I think it may be a pain in the ass for early adopters.
I prefer my nav to stay on my phone screen and not my H/U since i only glance at the directions and don't use the audio and rarely use Pandora.

for me it's the 4400 ftmfw!

slowhat - I just re-watched your video in the OP. What/how do you mount your Gnex under the Pioneer?? Check the video at 1:05 if that helps explain what I'm talking about. I currently do not have any mount for the phone and with my phone being my Nav it's something I am definitely interested in checking out.

it's a Tetrax Xway mount. It uses a rare earth magnet, that is super strong. As long as you're ok with mounting a tiny metal circle on the back of your phone/device, it is an awesome mounting solution. It hooks to any vent with a louvred design. They also a few other styles that adhere to flat surfaces but i prefer the vent mount. Kind of expensive, but i've had one for about 3 years and the quality is outstanding. The magnet does not interfere with the phone's operation. I've had it with 3 phones and no issues
