I have had Sprint since 2001 and lived in southern and northern Virginia with no issues. No problems when I lived in northern Louisiana either.

Not trying to detract from the "my carrier vs your carrier" discussion....but I've been waiting all afternoon for the N7 update to 4.1.2.

What's that trick to "manually" force for an update check? No, im not talking about the 'system updates' button. IIRC, there is some process to clear the data from a particular app that will send a special update request--or something. Halp

HTC usually releases a way to unlock them. They did it for the regular One X.

Don't they still have a firmware that can't be unlocked?

I was a Tmobile customer for 5 years and I will be honest, I was very happy with them. I switched to at&t since that's what my work uses but if I could, I would jump back to Tmobile in a heartbeat.

Alright, so does anyone out there use the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit? The version available for download is 7.8, but there is an update available (which the program even checks and detects!) but doesn't get installed. What gives? Do I have to donate to get this functionality?

I rooted and unlocked and all that with 7.8 just fine. It's pretty self-explanatory.

Not for AT&T they didn't. If you bought it early on, you could root it and fool HTC to give you an unlock code by changing the phones Carrier ID but they patched the root exploit with the latest update.

I ended up using Wugmans toolkit instead. GNexToolkit didn't sit well with me when it detected an update, said it was updating, and never updated. Plus wugmans toolkit is N7 friendly, needless to say, I uninstalled GNexToolkit.

I am so on the fence on this
I need 32gb of storage in my tablet, do I
a. Wait hope and pray google releases one in the next month
b. Order a kindle fire 32gb and have it arrive and hope it becomes rootable since I dislike the OS

I have a 16gb tablet now, and between movies, music, and podcasts i am always running against the limit on it. I could also suck it up, buy the 16gb nexus7 and just be on my marry way and deal with storage as I need to. the only real issue is when I travel(2-3 times a year) and want 3-4 movies+audiobooks+podcasts all at the same time. Gonna primarily use it at home to surf the web, watch movies and keep track of sports scores otherwise.

Get the nexus, Is what I am thinking....but that nagging tech issue is always there
"Coming soon.......newer **** is always coming soon"

Edit:
Just answered my own question, the nexus7 uses OTG, so with a basic cable, and one of my many 32, or 64gb thumb drives, I have a whole bunch more storage, is this right? if so the choice just got really easy.

Yeah, when I'm traveling, all of my media and files that I regularly use on my computer go on my thumb drive. An OTG cable is super cheap from Monoprice. I've heard that if you order the Nexus 7 from Staples, you don't have to pay for shipping.

For my 4.1.2 update on my N7, I got the zip file from xda (03a4eaf95f73.signed-nakasi-JZO54K-from-JRO03D.03a4eaf9.zip), put it on the device and flashed from CWM. After the flash, I was asked if I wanted to prevent ROM from flashing its own recovery and I said yes. Also asked if I wanted to keep root and I said yes.

edit: rooted on stock rom

I never rooted mine when I first got it, so hopefully when I backup the apps it will retain my saved games etc. :/

Edit: it says root is not required to back up apps with this tool, or to update to 4.1.2...sweet

If I were on a custom ROM, I would wait for the maintainers to add 4.1.2 to the build then flash. Honestly, not much in this update. So far, the one finger pull down expand notifications, the horizontal lock screen and launcher.

edit: if you're on CM10, they've already done it: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+Cyanoge...ts/PENah31QawQ
